It’s crazy to think that Big Daddy Kane is only a year older than Jay-Z but they represent two different eras of Hip Hop.

Kane was probably 18 when he came out in 87-88. Jay was 26 when his first album came out in 96 but really got famous in 97 when he was 27. DMX debuted in 98 and he was like 27/28 yrs old. Eminem’s debut album was 1999 and he was 27 at the time. If you think about it Kane is in the same age group as them.

Because at the time Jay-Z was the hype man for Jaz-O. He watched what the others did right and wrong. Later when he came out on his own with Dame Dash on Rocafella Records he not only could rap but he was able to make soild business moves for years to come also self promotion and marketing as well. It works better for some people than others.

@@isaacTGOD44 I believe thats a big part of the problem a lotta us have w the young generation. Bcz unless someone is damn good at freestyling, then going straight to the mic isn't very respectful of the art. Theres deeper dimensions to the art of writing. Which enables masterpieces to unfold. Even ppl good at freestyling, typically write also, when they wanna contribute something valuable to the culture

All great emcees of the past and present are like prophets in a way..they see things taking hold in the present that they realize are manifesting.
