Big Dan's Airguns

After seeing so many videos online with shooters doing some ultra long range target work with fancy PCP's I thought it was about time somebody did it with a springer. So here's my attempt at 100 yards target bashing with twanger in hand!
If you like the rifle on test get in touch with us at bigdansairguns.co.uk and we'll get you sorted.

The ones that say you need a PCP for accuracy are the ones that CAN'T shoot a springer. When I started shooting there was simply nothing else so it had to be a springer. Started with a BSA Carpet, onto Relum Tornado and was that a culture shock. Then an Airsporter Mk1. There have been many others including PCP's and one or two or three surprisingly good CO2 rifles. PCP only now due to physical disability and age but I recommend everyone learns to shoot a springer. I made all kids and grandkids master them first before I would even consider buying them PCP's. To be fair they still love the simplicity of the springer; the ultimate stand alone airgun.

I'm a Brit in the US and there's a saying about shooting standing up or as they say over here, "offhand" as opposed to those who shoot bench or prone etc. "It's the difference between a rifleman and a man who shoots a rifle". That's some good shootin' there Tex, 😁

Your choice of music for this video is SUPERB! They make that second stage screw smaller because it, inherently, has smaller (more dense) thread rate (slower, yet more precise regulation).

I am with you. I love my hw97kt Springer. With the right pellets, it can keep up with a PCP, regarding accuracy. Obviously it's rate of fire let's it down when it comes to pest control. It is also not exactly quiet, in its operation, compared to a PCP. It is however, a brilliant target rifle and great for hft competitions. Long live springers. Thank you 😊

@@bigdansairguns83 Big D, you are too humble. Like I said above, I’ve been watching your channel for years. You are a amazing shooter, luck has nothing to do with your skills with springers 😬 Heck I doubt I could shoot as good as you with my PCPs shooting off a bench. Shooting springers, is definitely more fun. I started out 20+ years ago with budget springers, and now I own a .177 HW97K blue lam and a .22 HW97KT synthetic with the SS/nickel finish. Both great guns. I just wish I had your skills, so I can actually appreciate and get my money’s worth out of them 😆

Oh Yeah, Big Dan, that's the way to challenge yourself. Wow. I'm glad you chose the Cometa for this one. You sorted the trigger pretty much exactly as I adjust mine, and it has to be one of the best given the price (I find it somewhat similar to the T06). And the accuracy of those cold hammer forged barrels have nothing more to prove and aren't afraid of anyone. I recently gave my fenix barrel a polish with J.B. bore paste and then Flitz and whoa, it's amazing. I'm blown away, and got so excited that I had to order myself another Fenix, this time in .25. To put it simply, I'm obsessed with Cometa springers. Cheers Sir, and as always thanks for the entertaining videos.

Hey Mguffan! Exactly, a lot of people knock the trigger as out of the box they can have a bit of creep on the second stage but with just some minor adjustment they're fantastic. The rifles themselves are fantastic too, not much recoil, ultra fast shot cycle and no twang at all at least in sub 12. Wonderful bit of kit!

Hi again , I am impressed with your shooting abilities my friend! What really upsets me that the Canadian government will not allow ANY Air rifle that fires above 500 ft per sec , without a firearms certificate! !! What they are afraid of is beyond me , when England allows you to shoot faster air guns? Also , we are forbidden to use modifiers, WHY ? I suppose because the people in charge would prefer to hear the bullets when they come for them ! LOL Such a joke but I guess we can blame Al Capone movies for that, as the generation in charge would all have watched the movies I,m sure ! And considering all the wide open spaces we have it is beyond understanding ! Gun control has come beyond our wildest dreams ! Yet the killing keeps going in and near the larger cities as the criminals do not need to register their firearms ! If it wasn't so ludicrous a person could laugh BUT it isn't and with the government is power now , it has them all in a panic ! But enough of my rant and I say I enjoyed your site a whole bunch !

No way could I hit the broad side of a barn door off hand especially with a sub-12 springer😂 It would be a waste of good pellets. FAC in .22 or .25 from a bench yeah but not off hand. Even in FAC I wouldn’t try it in .177 unless it were heavier slugs. The weight of that .177 pellet gets pushed so easily by the wind I would think it is more luck and guess work for me. 🤦 Glad to see you have a pair and gave it a go.👍 Thanks for the video get away. I have only my Break Barrel and Pellets and I am as happy as a kid again. Doing crazy accurate shooting at 53 years old. 20m I put pellet in pellet standing free hand. I was never keen on fat ass sitting behind a huge scope on a special table shooting. There is no accomplishment in it Field Target Shooting standing just lift up and shoot that is where the fun starts and the PCP boys get separated from the real marksman. @@bigdansairguns83 Hi Dan, funny you should mention that. When I was a spotty faced youth I lusted after a Goldstar. Later, when I became officially an old fart the step kids bought me a mint, boxed Superstar (same gun just single shot). It is a beut! First thing I did of course was take it to bits and make it as I thought it should be. At the time I worked in a realy large open factory, 50yd plus clear, ideal indoor range. When a (younger 😊) workmate discovered my plans he proceeded to inform me how I was wasting my time and he would show me how a 'modern' gun would out shoot my antique! You can guess the outcome. Let us just say I have never been asked for a rematch! I still have my Superstar and still love it. I do have a pcp, a Rotax R8. Brilliant gun, use it for bunnies and tree rats, a job it is well suited for. While the SS is fitted with diy iron sights and used for 50yd plus target just for fun. Yes, I watched Quigley! Oh, btw, all 22. Fat fingers, can't use the kiddies sizes😅 Regards, Mark

@bigdansairguns83
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hey Silverback! I'll help any way I can. For me (and if you're in the UK) .177 is the better calibre. It's faster so less drop at range and with tests done online it leaves a similar size wound channel to .22 due to the extra velocity causing the pellets to mushroom more. The .22 will shoot slightly smoother due to less stress on the spring and it won't be quite so negatively effected by the wind due to being twice as heavy on average but for longer ranged accuracy it's .177 no doubt. I hope this helps matey.

@bigdansairguns83
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
@@kevingingell4493 Hi Kevin! For sub 12 I think .177 is still the best calibre for hunting and target simply because of the drop distance as you've mentioned and because with quarry from what testing I've seen they actually leave a similar wound channel to .22 as they seem to mushroom much greater probably due to the increased velocity and lighter weight. I'm a bit of a weirdo though as I actually lately choose .25 over .22.. the drop isn't as bad as many make out and with lighter pellets you can approach .22 speeds but with a larger surface area hitting your quarry. Plus it aint half fun launching tin cans with it when you catch em' right! With an RFD transfer all we'll need is the name of your RFD and payment and we'll have the rifle sent there for you, you will usually have to pay a handling fee on their end (£20'ish) usually and then that's it. It's pretty simple the only paperwork involved is between us RFD's. If interested contact me on the website at bigdansairguns.co.uk.
