*HEY Y'ALL! Drop a comment below and tell me which one of these pads is your jam 🏆 Oh...and lemmie know if my new A&F Raw Brass snare smacked you all up in the feels, too! I realize that throwing ANY pad on this snare is like putting Sofia Vergara in a trench coat...but I do it for you guys in the name of science* 🥁😍✌🏽

I'm going with the Sofia Verigara in a trench coat theory. Keep those pads at a safe distance from your snare. Also not a fan of the pads on any snare.

Hey Rob, I'm considering buying the Green Monster, but soley because of the coating. I love the Remo P77 head, but it's useless for brushes because of the top dot. I was thinking if I put the Green Monster over it when I needed to play brushes that'd fix the problem. Good idea or no?

Funnily enough, I was in a recording situation just today that required a fat snare sound. I'd considered going for these before, but I'm in University right now, so I want to conserve money. So today I just had my snare, a tuning key and some moon gel, and when we were all sitting in the control room, one of the engineers said it was the best snare sound they'd ever heard in that room. Don't get me wrong, I like the way these pads sound, but today that natural fat snare sounded sweet!

Man, I didn't know there were THAT many different ones. Drummers have lots of choices now! It may be true that an un-dampened snare head is really the best, but when you are in a pinch to change when in different situations - especially recording situations, those little damping pads might just be the handy tool you need! Thanks for the informative video here, Rob! :)

Love the A&F....I’ve been eyeing the “rude boy” and the steel snares myself. The pads make a big difference in sound. Not sure that I’d ever need them, but they work.

I think you did a pretty good job of walking the line between expressing thanks to a company and giving your listeners an objective review. You were clear that not everyone needs one. If I can be picky I'd say the only thing missing was your playing a beat-up drum head in comparison. Otherwise, thanks again for an excellent video.

The green monster look the coolest or the mirror one for zoning out moments. That white foam wrap used in shipping also works for sound effects. It's a white thin like foam, also works in bass muffling. Oh, newspaper too!

A&F Brass Snare ... nice man! Sounds great! I got a Steve’s Donut on my 14x5.5 snare. It sounds cool but I’d probably prefer it on a deeper snare cause it really deadens the tone of shallower quite a bit. But for a fat 70s sound or even a new wave style snare, it does the trick really well.

The shining had to be my favorite in terms of what I would like to get out of my snare drum. I like to play a tight tuning but I generally get a lot of hollow sounding ring that way as well that needs something to control it (Metallica's St. Anger comes to mind, ok not quite that much but close). I am thinking this might just be an idea. I want to keep most of the sound but control the ring and resonance a bit... Awesome vid Rob! I am going to be putting my cans under the mic's soon so I may end up changing my tuning, if not I may look into these.
@DZNTZ
@DZNTZ 4 жыл бұрын
If you want juuuust a bit of control without losing any tone or crack, I suggest the Snareweight M1. It has a more subtle effect, tames the ring without really changing the drum sound.

This is just one man's opinion, but if you had a DW Super Sonic snare drum with its 3P butt plate, and then throw in a Steve's Donut pad and an AMS RMX16 machine...man, you could go to town with that much versatility!!!

Surprise you did not demo the Donut - XL. I have the XL, and prefer over the original. Also, would be nice to sample over the toms. At first, I saw as a gimmick, but have since ordered a complete set for my kit (10,12, 13,13, 14). I don't see myself ever doing away with them. Helps with overtones, and looks better than moongel or tape residue on the heards

The real strength of the BFSD pads is the ability to radically change your snare sound (and back again!) quickly during a set on a live gig. They record well and the Donut gives space for ghosting or some heavy brush work. But your snare... oops, drooled on the keyboard!

I remember when Ringo put a tea towel on his snare for "Get Back " , I am not a fan . I don't know what brand that snare is that your using there but is sounds great . The less Sofia Vergara has on the better and yes the same with a great snare perfectly tuned drum .I love open drums or the already tuned heads (reverse dot). Then again Ringo did sound great and I can't imagine the snare sound on that recording without the tea towel.
