I quite enjoyed Storm Warning, really great introduction to Charley and re-introduction of 8. Unfortunately the next few stories fall a bit flat, so don't stop until you're past Chimes of Midnight, then it gains some speed again. To recommend some stuff - you've probably heard this from everyone, but everything from Rob Shearman, he's a magnificent writer (especially Holy Terror, arguably one of the best DW stories of all time - on par with Chimes of Midnight). I'd like to suggest some underrated stories, that don't get the love they deserve. Lot of experimental stuff like Flip-Flop, LIVE 34, Natural History of Fear, Creatures of Beauty, the Unbound series. Also Urgent Calls is a pretty good story which paints the 6th Doctor in entirely new light, Circular time develops the relationship b/w 5th and Nyssa. And some of the stuff which features David Tennant and he steals it for himself (Colditz, Medicinal Purposes,...)

My personal favourite BF series is Gallifrey. It's a political drama set on Gallifrey with Romana 2, Leela, 2 K9s, and a few others over the years. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if that concept even slightly interests you it's well worth checking out.

Big finish has filled the void in my heart since I stopped watching new who since series 11.

So happy we finally got some South African recognition in a doctor who story.....even if that recognitions is in the form of the villian and using our language wrong.

I believe Stones of Venice was the first to be recorded, but to be honest the characters/chemistry is nailed pretty well there too

Pls review The Chimes of Midnight when you get to it!! I’ve only recently started Big finish and was worried i’d be disappointed with that story because of the hype and positive reviews, but honestly it really does live up to its reputation!

I recommend listening too the war master: anti-genesis as I enjoyed the story!

Good to see you covering Big Finish. I find Paul McGann an absolute joy to listen to. India Fisher too! I'm still working my way through this era myself but have thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories so far.

Yey! Finally. I started with Eighth doctor adventures with Lucie Miller and now I'm finishing Eighth main range arc with Charley. I prefer the overall feel of Lucie but Charley has one of my fav doctor who stories ever And McGann quickly became my absolute favourite Doctor. He is brilliant.

I always liked Paul McGann’s Doctor, but it was only when I listened to him on Big Finish did I truly love him.

The best part of the story is the alien getting his ass whooped.

I'd love to see you review the whole of the Charlie/8 stuff (first two series on Spotify) because you're used to classic who format this is a great jumping on point. It'd be really interesting seeing you react to some of this stuff going on cause some of it is stuff you've been against when modern who does it. A couple of stories are quite bad, some are a bit awkward cause this is when big finish just started out and were really experimental and abstract and do go over their head a bit (even more than Moffat at times). But some of these are the best Doctor Who media ever.

I love this story. It was my first introduction to Big Finish, and it made me love the audio format. The sound design brings you into the airship setting so well and I also enjoy the way the 8th Doctor and Charley bounce off each other. It doesn't reinvent the wheel like a lot of the best Big Finish Doctor Who stories, but as far as standard stories go, it's one of my favorites.

Yes it's broadly based on the crash of the British R101 airship in 1930 and LOL no the R101 wasn't a Zeppelin, as Zeppelin were simply a German company that made airships.

The R101 crashing then fucking exploding did happen in real life.

I always felt dizzy thinking of the many spin-offs of the Whoniverse there is to hear, but after listening to several Bernice Summerfield stories, I now want to explore more of this universe!

If you really like big finish I’d suggest Human Resources however you will have to listen to blood of the Daleks and Lucy Miller stories because it reveal a lot of stuff from that arc however it still is a really good standalone audio drama

You know, I was just thinking today “I’d really love to see someone reacting to Big Finish for the first time” and then boom. I’m surprised you haven’t heard these before, but fuck it, I’m into it. I assume this is gonna be a weekly thing? Or at least we’re gonna be following your journey along these? The Vortisaur thing is weird, I assume the idea was that The Doctor and Charley were gonna have an animal mascot but I’m guessing the writers just didn’t know what to do with it, so The Doctor just lets it go after a few stories. Also, the people who told you to go straight to Lucie Miller are fucking idiots, don’t listen to them. Charley forever, she’s like my favorite Companion (tied with Ace).

Just to chime in (see what I did there?) with what others say you should really really check out The Chimes of Midnight. It is a stunning work of art and you really can not go too far wrong for £2.99 from the Big Finish website. It is better than ALL nu Who and easily on par with the absolute best that the classic series has to offer.

I get the feeling of overhype there was one story in particular that was so overhyped I was just disappointed the other I went with was also hyped up but I ended up loving it So you really have to go in neutral and hope it’s good

You’ve probably already heard, but the Chimes of Midnight is a great adventure. I don’t recommend it for your next listen, maybe get in a few more Charlie stories and then give it a go

The Charlie Pollard/8 Doctor stuff is great up until the divergent universe arc which is a real mixed bag. In 'The Creed of Kromon' they introduce a new companion called C'rizz and he's boring af, his only character trait is he changes colour based on his emotions which is of course great for an audio drama... At that point I'd recommend listening to 'Scherzo' and 'The Natural History of Fear' and then skipping all the way to 'Terror Firma'; trust me you aren't missing anything.

I think you did a good thing starting with Charlie, but I have to say Storm Warning is not one of their best. I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but listen to Chimes of Midnight. Also, will we bet getting a review of sword of Irion, then the next one etc? Or is this just a one off?

I do agree with you that sometimes your expectations can be too high. I've been going through the main range the last few years and was very excited for spare parts but found it over rated. Might have to re-listen one day. As for this episode It's a long time since I listened but remember the alien side got a bit too over scientific and bored me a little. As for the R101 it was a real crash but there where a couple survivors in real life but not many. I also found Charley a bit odd.to begin with because of masterchef. I don't want to put you off but colin is a great big finish doctor and I recommend following his stuff with Evelyn

I don't take Big Finish canon if it's on screen-yeah, it is canon(depending on the episode). The fact that Doctor Who is failing, they should do Big Finish Audio Dramas with a Paul Mcgann series. Big Finish and Paul McGann's short run is why he is my second worst doctor.

If you going to review a story at least do some footnotes and pretend you know what you're talking about
