It's our final day in Mkuze Game Reserve and we do the Fig Forest Walk, which takes us into Africa's Oldest Indigenous Fig Forest with some trees dating over 900 years old. We have a lazy afternoon drive and move into our new accommodation for the night, the tented safari camp at Mantuma Rest Camp.

Yes, I think they were only introduced in late 2013. I don't think there's too many - but definitely a small pride.

Hi Nicole! Im well aware that most animals don't attack unless threatened but when you visit these lodges and eatout in the open, are you ever concerned? love your content, keep it up!

Hi Jay :) Thanks for the message. Not really - especially during the day. The only thing that I would be very wary of is buffalo, and maybe elephant, but things like your lion and leopard will do their best to stay far away from you. Monkeys are honestly the biggest pest at these picnic sites during the day. At night however, one has to be slightly more wary as your big cats are a lot more brazen than during the day, as well as hyena, but if you keep checking around with a spot and don't veer too far away from camp in the dark, you should be A OK :)

Oef, that Fig Forest walk is dreaaamy. We were at Mkhuze in September last year and there was no guide available for the walk. I think he was on long-term leave. So chuffed the walk is back open. Lucky!

Africa is so pretty. That Bold eagle in the tree reminds me of the 3 year old girl that vanished 3 weeks ago up on the Blackfoot Reservation. People may not know it but those big birds will take your children when your not looking.

Oh wow, that's quite hectic! Thankfully the African Fish Eagle pretty much only subsists on fish, so as far as I'm aware there has been no such instances. I hope the little girl was found eventually!!

@@NicoleEddy1 No they never found her. They called in the National Guard and did a large search of 20 miles in all directions of where she was last seen but found nothing. I'm sure she ended up by a nest of baby birds to be ripped apart and fed to the mother birds baby's. The sad part is that animals don't kill their pray but rip them apart while their still alive. There was another 3 year old just over the State line in Leadore, Idaho years ago who vanished from a Camp Ground. They did a big land search for him as well. Nothing was found. I camped in a spot 50's from there before this and I counted over 90 Buzzards perched in the trees one night. They were all there because of a Mouse Infestation. There was also a story I was made to read about a woman who sword up and down that she saw her baby grow wings and fly into the Clouds. She only saw the wings sticking out from both sides of her baby but not the body of the bird. It was an old wives tail kind of a story but it could of been a Bible Story too. I don't remember. When you start having Kids Nicole, don't leave them unattended outside ever.

Thanks Greg :) Only one hairy moment a few years back where we stumbled upon a lone buffalo (which is probably the last thing you want to come across on foot as they are unreasonably aggressive), but thankfully he bolted in the other direction - certainly got the heart racing!

That is a good looking burger considering what your working with. Would the animals come around from the scent of the meal?

It was blimmin’ tasty as well 🤤 With regards to the scent, it can definitely attract the scavengers such as hyena and jackals, especially if visitors have fed them from the fire place before.

Another beautiful vlog! I am just curious, do most of the camp accommodations have two separate small beds? Instead of one bigger bed? I am loving your travels.!

Thank you :) Yes, for some reason most of these places (including Kruger National Park) have two single beds as opposed to a double, but our chalet prior to the tent had a double bed.

Hi Cathy :) We use the Roberts Bird Guide & Phone App (the phone app is particularly good with learning the bird calls) and the bird book is really comprehensive. We keep both a life list & a year list that tracks all of our birds seen in obviously our lives and then for each year, but I don't think that we'll write a book - unless you manage to convince Blair 😉
