Never heard him play in the flesh but really would have loved too. He just nailed it... ! Would loved to have known more about him , how he learned to play etc.... sad loss

@@trevmassey885 He was self taught. He used to pick me up from school just so he could play the piano in the hall. He was devoted to his music. He lived and breathed it.

Greetings from Texas... Big John, my friend: your boogie woogie isn’t the fanciest but by God it’s the rockin’ best. Smooth. I have heard ‘em all. You have the finest purest boogie woogie of all. I still have your CD and I play it all the time.

That old piano has seen it's fair share of boogie woogie. I've seen 3 great performances on that piano here on youtube! Mr carter's boogie is top notch stuff

I just don't understand what exactly he does with the left hand. Especially regarding the c sharp/f sharp/g sharp he's hitting often. I don't really see the regularity with those keys. Does anyone?

Thats the pattern of the bass, keys played I think are: C, C, D# + A, C, E + G, C, F + A, E + G Play that 4 times then transpose the above to F and G in the pattern he was

The Piano's out of tune somewhat and some wires are loose.. so the Left Hand c sharp etc, keys that get used less, are more prominent than they would be on a different piano.. I love it though.. the piano has character and sounds like a Saloon piano.. Big John Carter is Fantastic.. one of my favourites.

Not that far. If you watch Henri`s Boogie, at one minute and forty seconds on the top right of screen Big John Carter comes into shot wearing the same clothes as he is in this vid. Boogie Woogie boys day out. Both filmed the same day.
