Japan made season 1, it did poorly in Japan but got high ratings in the US. CN decided to commission a season 2, which they own since they paid for it.

I don't know if I have ever been as hyped for a show's return as I was for this (especially since it originally was not going to get a 2nd season).

I remember this commercial quite vividly back in 2001 and how intense they made season 2 look in comparison to season 1.

that's pretty cool when you think about it. CN went to Japan to help produce a new season. I heard they did something similar with Ghost in the Shell SAC, is that rue?
