Great video, l’m working on a 1926 Caterpillar 60 which I first saw over 50 years ago and have owned for 25. I’ve never seen it run but hope to in next couple of months. Should be an exciting day.

Don't forget the Lombard log haulers were the first commercial machines to use tracks.

This has to be one of the best videos of Holt engines I have seen. The sound of this engine is just second to none. One day I will own a Holt engine just to start up the machine and watch it run slow. The pop pop sound really puts a smile on my face every time. Keep up the great work and peace too. vf

the way you explain about the this brand of engines i feel you 100% i have the same! wel louds of type of engines als i have it wil large and loud steam engines steam whisles and large singel cyl engines and loud thumpin engines! i feel you and i know exact how you feel when you cant stop listening to its beautyful mighty sound of large engines! ex emosions you get watch it and enjoying the sound and sight gets sometimes emostional

Actually the first workable crawler track design (Patent No. 674,737 filed on Nov. 9, 1900) was developed by Alvin Lombard of Waterville, ME. and put into production in 1901. Lombard's last machine left the factory in 1936.

We were having a lot of fun that day. It was the first time we had shown the freshly rebuilt engine in public. And with the pipes on it, you could still hear it thump away all the way from the far end of our large field. We love how it sounds.

Factory spec for the 6 cylinder 120hp is actually from about 100rpm up to a max of 550rpm. The 6 cylinder in the video has seen sustained running down to about 70rpm amazingly. It's fun to play with and sounds great doing it.

These old tractors are primitive by todays standards but , they literally changed the world .. Crop production exploded as did the acreage put to seed whereas before, the horse & mule teams were slow & could only work half as many hours in a day... So many acres were turned under the plow that when a drought hit in the 1930's , the heartland turned to dust... The Great Depression & the Dust Bowl at the same time , brought farming to an end for hundreds of thousands . It brought about conservation that we still see being used today with crop rotations & no plow farming.. If you drive thru the midwest even today you will see windbreaks on every farm.. And crop reduction allowed tree's & grasses to grow & further slow the erosion effects of wind on the Great Plains. Today modern tractors on large farm operations cost more than the cost of 2 average homes . And , several are required to make the farmer competitive in todays world economy
