Big People: "Let's Go," live in Bottineau, July 1, 2000

Check out this amazing, never-before-seen footage of Big People kicking ass at the Rockin' the Hills festival at the Wild Rose Amphitheater in Bottineau, North Dakota. The band took the stage on Saturday, July 1, at 2:15 pm. Ben's health was declining and he was losing weight rapidly, but his attitude was strong and he was still jamming like a true rocker!
This footage was generously given to me by Joe Dlearo, and is shared here with permission. There is more to come as we approach the 22nd anniversary of this incredible bit of Big People history, so please stay tuned.

Well, I won't lie..this was hard to watch. But only because of seeing what that dreadful disease was doing to a beautiful, vibrant man. To me, I think Benjamin was still gorgeous. I read where he had said he wanted to go out performing for as long as possible. And wow, did he ever. The amount of courage that it must have taken for Ben to get on that stage and sing his heart out, well I don't think very many people could do it. I respect him so much. Ben, thank you for the music. You were truly a rock god. Angels like you don't come around very often. 💜

Such a trooper going out and performing while dying of cancer. You can hear it as he struggled to hit higher notes toward the end of the song. RIP, Benjamin Orr.

Dressed to the nines and that beautiful smile at the end. Thank goodness these rockers came together just at the time that Benjamin needed them the most. Had I received the news Benjamin received from the doctors, I would have given up and stayed in bed but his courage and love of music and performing is a lesson to all to live life to the fullest. What a champion he was! 🎉

I can't imagine being told you're dying while being newly engaged, having a 5 year old son you'll never see grow up, and in a fairly new band that had a bright future ahead. The torment Ben must of felt inside, but continued to play until basically the end. That is an enormous spirit that is commendable, honorable, and down right unbelievable. 😢❤ He will be remembered not only as a fantastic musician, but as a courageous, remarkable human being. You are my hero and inspiration Ben. ❤️

I come back to this video every few days, hard as it is, to watch a true star in motion. Benjamin was class, and grace up on that stage. Oh, he was beautiful...still to me. He is what courage looks like. Much respect and love to you sweetheart. You will never be forgotten.

In utter awe of the strength shown by Ben doing what he loved. Knowing what we know now it’s heart breaking to watch but the music left behind is such a beautiful legacy - I appreciate the music more now than ever. It’s so true that we often do not appreciate what we have until it’s gone. Show more love for the things that matter now ❤

He passed away THRE MONTHS later. Staring death in the eye and saying "Oh Yeah? I'm not laying down and giving up. I'm going out singing and dancing and playing my music." I haven't got his courage or his talent. He has my admiration. Bravo, young man, bravo.

As I said, he could still get my motor running. How can somebody look this good and keep that beautiful smile right up to the end. This is what he said he would do snd he did!! Benjamin Orr is alive in my parallel reality and I honestly don't like to see these images of his last public appearances, as I think most people prefer to remember him when he was fine, just as I prefer to remember him healthy.

@@naaralima5182 in reality, Benjamin was beautiful up to his early death. How many rock stars can you think of who performed this great only 3 months before dying? He was a force to be reckoned with. A strong and beautiful man. The women who knew him were truly blessed... wish I could have been one of them. Have to settle for him everynite on my phone. Julie Snider was one lucky girl. When you see their picture together you can tell he loved her. I see she has married and I hope she is happy.

It very much can happen that way. I found out personally that it can A person can feel bad a few months before for a very short time then feel better. After a few months then not be okay.

All I know is I want a hype man like Derek by my side when I'm fighting the good fight! These guys loved and looked up to Benjamin just like we do, only they got to know him and hold him up when he needed them most. (Also - I LOVE HIM.)

WORTH THE READ: Always immortal on film and recordings.....we are very blessed, lucky, fortunate for that. Generations can tune in forever. We're all still here. Tuning in, watching, listening singing along with thee one and only Benjamin Orr . The real deal. A true rock and roller, clean cut, humble, and dedicated. This was weeks before he passed. Thank you Ben Orr.

Thank you Donna Sweetpurplejune for posting this. I was always a fan of Ben's and was devastated by his passing. I never got to see the Cars or Ben perform live in concert other than DVD's or posted videos. Seeing this video and Ben in Big People band is a major positive and inspiration. Thank you to everyone with the positive and heartfelt comments and he was truly amazing and a bright star shining in life. R.I.P.

Thank you to Donna and Joe! This is very cool to see. This is probably the best quality footage of Ben ever playing his black Fender P Bass Special. Most of the BP footage on KZfaq shows Ben playing the Steinberger headless bass. Even though Ben was sick, he still sounds great here, and is smiling. Those fans were lucky to catch this!
