I agree with you, too many individuals on too much money and not enough pride to give 100% for the benefit of the team. United need a complete rebuild which will take 3-5 years if fully supported by the board. With the current board that is wildly optimistic. The big hope is for some real talent to come out of the academy, but it would help if they then don't leave on a free transfer to join FC Prison. There are some players currently in the academy I expect will break through over the next 2-3 years.

He certainly has been a massive part of the problem, and people who understand dressing room dynamics would realise this. Ole had a clear plan in the summer. Fill the very weak RW position to free up Greenwood to play up top. Buy a CB. And rotate Greenwood and Cavani in centre forward to aid the former's transition. Potentially buy a CDM too with the left over money. These would ALL have built on the qualities on Bruno, Mason, Rashford and Sancho, and our playstyle wouldn't have to change. However, as soon as Ronaldo was brought in, he was completely unrotatable and required a completely different playstyle from the side. Forcing Greenwood back to the right. Displacing Sancho to the left, out of position. Causing disharmony for Rashford and Martial, who were left sided as well. Add to that, the diminishing of the role and social standing of Fernandes, who was no longer the main man for basically no reason and struggles for Portugal with Ronny. That's basically all of our forwards out of whack just because Ronaldo was signed. They were no longer getting service from the center forward areas and the wide players stopped getting chances. If Ronaldo wasn't here, United had an opportunity to build massively on where they were. With Ronaldo, they almost teleported backwards and sideways. Created total disarray.

If you do mean previous seasons, United were obviously missing a few key players and the team needed time still, but progress in league standings, goals scored, progression in cups and the squad were very clear to see. Playstyle was missing, as was silverware. The true naivity is assuming that a 37 year old goal machine with a status actually bigger than the club cannot possibly have played a role in disrupting the growth of the squad. Ronaldo's introduction has been jarring, and is not the only reason for the total collapse of the club since, but plays a major role

Ralf will be better as a technical director than he is as a coach/manager. My preference for next year is ten Hag, although he too can be very stubborn or inflexible. He will play with an attacking system that uses the flanks, without leaving the back wide open. Any manager coming in has to insist on a 200m transfer budget to get at least 4 new players of his choice, otherwise they will be wasting their time unless they are just focussed on their pay cheque.
