Tip on avoiding wanting to get the latest and greatest stuff/setup is to build your own. When you have a cool draw/shelf system or whatever in the back of the car/ute that you built, you take pride in it and you'll always have something that's different.

I always use to live watching 4wheeldrive action for all their great ideas and self builds .... I don't watch it anymore since they just take their motors to the shop and having all done for them with the latest stuff....not that it's bad stuff I just find it boring and like you said you get much more out of it when it's yours

Change is inevitable. No 10 year tourer would be the same at the start and end, and I think it is good to acknowledge that your circumstances may have changed, and it's not the end of the world to change your setup to suit

Interesting perspective on all the changes that have happened to you & the fam Harry. Amazing to see the progress in the vehicle & how you are approaching things. We agree with the hybrid idea, some kind of V2G concept would be ideal. And yes a 300 chopped would be epic! I'm about to "CHANGE" my setup. Like how you're now thinking of Fred and his comfort. Good work. Setups generally need to change as our families grow or shrink, or our priorities change. I had a stuff it moment once and ripped my 12 volt wiring out to start again, as I went the lithium route and my existing wiring was not up to the task.

A good quality low profile and bright light for the roof rack would be a Stedi Micro V2 7.2" light. Stedi also does a slim bracket for it designed for Rola or other roof platforms that will allow you to mount them underneath your wing awning. This is my recommendation for you wanting to CHANGE your current area lights. I went with the lower kelvin models to reduce the bugs attracted to the usual bright white LED lights around camp.

Kids does put another element into a rear setup but as you said with the cub you don't really need all the stuff in the back anymore, change what you need to suit yourself/family, we've always managed to pack the Tracky with our gear that way the back is open for dog or when we had a baby baby the pram, those days are gone so the dog gets his spot back now were dealing with the middle fitout for those long drives

I think the 10 year tourer will always mean a lot of change to most people. Life and needs are always gonna change in 10 years. It's nice to plan for keeping every item for 10 years, but even better explaining why and how to go about adapting to life changes while still getting out camping.

Rad Harry. I've always liked building things with a modular approach, regardless of what it is. That allows flexibility with life's shifting directions/needs/wants and new technologies to upgrade/incorporate. Over 10 years, a lot will CHANGE. BTW, love using French fries chips in a feed!!

Love listening to you talk about your rig (which is awesome). I wish there was a way to get your thoughts on the Rivian R1S. I took delivery of mine October 2022 and I absolutely love it. The extra storage in the front truck (where the engine normally goes) and the extra storage in the back where the gas tank normally goes is absolutely brilliant. It already came with 35” tires, but you can change the tire size to your heart’s desire, because there is not gearing to worry about. You can tap into all the electrical power you want, sure it reduces your range…but let’s be real, you’re talking about maybe 3-5 miles for tons of cooking or powering your fridge. You don’t need a diesel heater, you just set the climate control to whatever you want to sleep at. Disadvantages: charging infrastructure (not so bad in the States, especially when you factor in RV camp sites and towing (which I don’t do).

Change whatever you need on the Prado. Needs continually change especially when the family grow and get bigger. I wouldn't worry if things aren't available after 10 years as products and companies continually change. Was looking at the celfi and was thinking about the gme antenna also. What conditions do you find it's improved in (specific terrain etc.)

Maybe go modular?. That works for me in the fortuner. 2 draws/camp kitchen in one trip. Draws out, electric scooters in the next etc. Weekender trips, take a good esky and leave the 12v fridge at home. For me, being a musician also forces you to go modular, as a drumkit, guitar amp just won't fit in a fixed set up. With this set up, naturally went with a portable lithium 100amh 12v solution for the fridge, and I have a couple of little companion rover 40amh to run lights, charge phones etc
