In this video, we're going to learn how to create diagrams in BIG's style. This is one approach to achieve this final result. Keep in mind that there are many ways to get there, this is one of many.
Bjarke Ingels Group uses diagrams to document each step and action on their project.
So, I hope you enjoy this video and learn this useful diagram.

Used this style in architecture school to show my concept and workflow years ago when I stumbled upon BIG, made it very easy for my audience to understand and they loved it. I wasn't very well versed in animation and rendering as other students but as it turned out, simple is best.

I was among the best in my year at Rendering when I started, though I learned a good lesson at the beginning of Stage 2 (year 2) that good rendering skills don't matter shit if you can't simply and succinctly explain the design process. From there on, I relied more on experimentation in the early stages to ensure I got the massing and identity right early on, and less on relying on renders to achieve design validity. From there, my grades improved drastically. Good lesson.

Hi, this video really helped me at work. I have a question, though. It seems to me that Sketchup has problems with exporting lines to PDF time to time. When I compare the result PDF to what I see in my viewport, the former one is cut marginally on four sides, as if an smaller, invisible rectangle is masked upon it. (Strange thing is that when I change the Hidden Lines Style to something else, like the Shaded with Textures Style, then it exports absolutely fine.) I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. If you have any idea about this, plz give me a comment. Thanks again for the video.

Thanks again, boss! Is there any way to make the streets and paths don't look like they are popping up, but down? Like actual streets? The normal thing would be for me to drag them up about 10cm, so there is a difference in level between the topographic plan and the street plan, I just can't find the way to do it right - when I push it down it gets hidden by the topographic plan where all buildings are sitting on. Regards, M

Very nice tutorial - thanks for that. One question... Why you're not using your passes to mask e.g. the tree circles? or coloring the sea?
@LearnUpstairs
@LearnUpstairs 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andreas! Thanks a lot for the feedback. I used the line pass to make these selections, which will do basically the same thing as a material pass. But for sure you could use other to create the selections. Since these were single areas. A line pass can do the job. But if we were to select all of the roads, or in a interior render (all of the glass). A material pass would certainly be better. I hope this makes sense 😅

@LearnUpstairs
@LearnUpstairs 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andres, thanks! Photoshop and Illustrator have two very different approaches when it comes to visualization and diagrams. I like to use them both at the same time so I get the best of both worlds. I usually use Illustrator to clean up the file and make changes to the line weight. And then I import into Photoshop to work on the rest
