Do you really need to spend twice the price of this Delta table saw??
Is it junk or a hidden gem?? Follow along with me as we check out this $680 table saw. Considering the recent price increases in shop equipment this may be a good option. Equipped with an amazing fence and a strong, quiet motor its definitely worth a look!

Nice honest review, thanks. I also have this saw and have had it for almost 2 years. It replaced a Delta bench top saw, that I now only refer to as a "table saw shaped object". Absolutely a Night and Day difference. One note to all of the folks comparing this to the DeWalt Job Site saw that another reviewed mentions. I looked at that saw, and for about the same cost, it also is a GREAT saw. The difference is really about what you want to do with it and if you really need portable. This saw has wheels, but is NOT portable. For me, the DeWalt would not have done the job. If you really want to use it for breaking down sheet goods, the DeWalt (in my opinion) simply doesn't have enough table surface. You would either need support on the left and outfeed, or have it built into a larger bench, or a helper, or two. Just my opinion. I too have upgraded the insert (same Etsy shop) and have several, including one for dados and one for 45 degree cuts. You are right that with the wings the table top isn't perfectly flat, but I don't have the rubbing and knocking that you do. I used a level across the top and clamped it to the cast iron and wings before tightening and that made a big difference. I have checked and adjusted it once (at about 1 year). The dust collection, as you noted is better than nothing (but only by a little) and to make real improvements I think you would need over the blade collection. The fence is, as you noted, rock solid and is one of the saw's strongest points. Absolutely no complaints here. I have taken the time to adjust both the blade and the fence to the miter slots as well as the riving knife to the blade. Kind of a pain, but worth the effort. I am using CMT full kerf (1/8") blades and have no issue with power. I have used the rip (24T) and cross cut (60T) blades on 8/4 Hickory and the saw does fine as long as you don't try to force the feed rate too fast. For me, the things making me consider upgrading are the fact that the cast iron top is not dead flat over its entire surface. When I am trying to do detail work, I have to spend a bunch of time fiddling with the blade angle because it is a few 10ths off if you are cutting 2" strips vs 12" strips. The slight variance in the cast iron on the right of the blade makes the smaller piece sit slightly differently. The other thing is I would honestly like a wider rip capability. I don't think I need anything crazy like 52", but 36 would be nice. And hey, who doesn't dream of a 3HP 220V Sawstop. One "accident" will pay for the difference, my issue is I don't really have a place to "semi-permanently" set up a saw like that. I have to roll mine around in the garage to cut larger stock. You noted that the wheels get caught in the expansion joints in the garage floor. That drove me nuts. I solved the problem with Sikaflex. You buy it in 10 oz caulk tubes at the orange big box store, and it self levels. I used sand to fill the deep part of the joint and then put this over it. I wish I had done it much earlier. Bottom line, for the $550 I paid in March 2020, it was an easy choice, and for a cast iron top table saw, you can't touch it for under $1000.

Hi, David, Would you mind sharing what you do with the wheel using Sikaflex? Did you complete secure the mechanism so the wheel won't flip?
@davidbondi
@davidbondi 2 жыл бұрын
@@rdr4b Yes. I used the Sikaflex to fill the cracks/expansion joints in my garage floor so that I could roll the saw over it without it getting stuck and/or jarring the saw badly. It worked very well. Because the stuff isn't cheap, and the expansion joints can be wide, at least at the top, I filled them with sand up to maybe 1/4" left, and then used the Sikaflex. It is self leveling so it was great. The saw rolls over it just like the floor was flat with no joints. I don't have any issues with the wheel flipping when it shouldn't. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is also a problem for skateboarders and the solution at some skate spots is painters tape and some bondo to fill the cracks. Yank up the painters tape when done and no more claclack claclack in the spot you’re skating.

Those dark areas on the throat plate are metalized areas for the kick back pawls to land on. My first saw was a Delta Contractors 1.5hp. Fence was cupped so I fabricated a bolt over hardwood cap which 100% corrected problem. The single long belt contributed to vibration. The saw was VERY accurate after much setup. Built in-feed and out-feed runners with large right hand table w/ rails. Almost as good as the Unisaw.

I did also just pick up a used Delta buck saw, very interesting how it will work with my radial ,and do what ever it takes to stay away from a table saw . In 40 years of wood cutting the most fingers or more have been lost by a table saw and band saws. 😎

Hello Alonzo! My local Lowes didn’t either. I drove an hour out to the burbs to check it out. When I get there it was the old 36-725 model. I wish I had a pic of it. I bought my Delta contractor saw almost 20 years ago. Mine has cast wings. I have made a lot of furniture with it over the years and it still cuts as accurate as it did back when it was new. I don't use it to cut large sheet goods (track saw) and so that isn't an issue for me. I seem to remember paying around $800 for it. It has served me very well over the years and I really can't justify putting out a thousand - plus dollars for a newer saw with all the bells and whistles. I made a zero clearance throat plate out of a piece of oak... keeps a lot of dust from hitting your face. :-) Good review... you have another sub. Keep them coming!!!

Hello Alex! You are absolutely correct it'll just lift off. Overcomplicating simple things is a personality trait of mine. I have plans to install a cast iron router table and wing on that saw. I had them clamped to death last time I tried and got the same result. Thanks for watching!!

For the price tag this is an outstanding saw. I was fortunate that the morning I went to LOWES to purchase it the were having a 50% "Clearance." Even at the regular price I was expecting to pay the the negatives are definitely outweighed by the positives. The extension wings are frustrating, I due adjust them from time to time to get them good to go. All in all, this saw is definitely an upgrade form any portable saw and might be the most cost effective saw available to to most out there. I needed to upgrade from my old Craftsman but could no way justify or even afford a $1200+ saw. Great review and assessment.

Victor, You don't give any indication as to whether your garage is separate from, or attached to, your home, but it sounds like you need to upgrade your service as you're risking having a fire. Many garages, especially older ones, are wired with one 15 amp circuit and wired with old fashioned, two 14 gage (hot & neutral, no included third ground) wires in the cable which was intended for a couple of 60 watt light bulbs and maybe a small corded electric drill for homeowner puttering and such. Check with someone reputable and compare the cost to rebuilding your house. Especially if your homeowner's insurance won't cover it because they'll claim you intentionally overloaded the circuit beyond its rated capacity.

Good review for a great saw. I bought the T2 a couple years ago. I got a cast iron wing/router table for it from MLCS in Philly. Had to drill mounting holes in the new cast iron wing which was a new thing for me, and daunting. (Tech service at MLCS walked me thru the steps.) The cast iron wing is a few thou off being coplanar. I'm thinking a few shims might be a remedy some day when all my other pressing projects are done.... or maybe it's good enough.

Good video. I have an old 1992 Delta Contractors saw that I bought with cast iron wings. They were not perfect either. I am not exactly sure from your video what the root cause is for the wings not being level with the table, but what I did was to shim the wings at the table side with folded over aluminum foil at a few points for the right thickness. If you need a lot, then a cut up aluminum soda can would work (or a sacrificed cheap feeler gauge). Clamp the wings in place until you get them as flat and level as possible with the shims and then screw them down. That did the trick for me and it''s been in service since '92 and working great.
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
Hello! The issue with mine is the wings themselves are not flat. They are higher around the perimeter of the wing and lower in the center. Could be from the stamping or from me pushing down or putting heavy stuff on it. Or both. I have it set up now with the wing perimeter flush with the table and they dip in the middle. At least they no long rub the fence. Eventually I’ll swap them out for cast iron. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the review. I have the identical saw that I purchased from Lowes 3 months ago for $725.00 or so, could not be happier with the purchase. 2 weeks ago I purchased the Incra TSLS 36" positioner fence system and the JessEM stock guides. I took the Delta to the next level for accuracy. It was already accurate. Delta can hold its own against the likes of SawStop and Laguna. I have less money and more repeatable accuracy in my Delta by adding the Incra TSLS fence, JessEm Stock Guides and the Incra Miter5000 compared to Sawstop and Laguna.

Hello Theodore! Ive been eyeballing that Incra Fence system for years before I bought the Delta. It looks amazing! The stock fence though is so good I forgot about the Incra for now. It has been in the back of my mind as being a good vid and well get to it eventually I'm sure. Thanks for the comment!

Agee on your findings of the fence... I bought this same fence and added it to my vintage 1969 Craftsman 113 table saw. With its cast extensions and router table adds, I'm getting 36" of rip to the right and 15" to the left. The fence installs beautifully and works excellent, as well as being rock solid.

That really cool! I’ll bet it could be adapted to almost any saw. It just needs the square tube on the front and angle iron on the back. If I’d known earlier how good it was I would have bought it years ago. Thank you for watching!

Probably the best, to the point review I've ever seen. Great job, scratch that Fantastic Job!. I'm between this and a Delta 5000 series but you convinced me to go for the 5000. You said it well "If your retired making furniture....." yep thats me now. Im just shocked the steel inserts negate the nice iron top. This would have been fine for the decks, overhangs and other stuff I did before but now I'm doing tables and cabinets. So I didn't fully understand, after you tightened the screws, did it take the slack out of all the angle stops? Great, Great review Brother, you made me a subscriber. Thanks much for the review.

Thank You very much! Those steel wings do tighten down and the bow in them isn’t visible to the eye. You only realize there’s a problem until you run the fence over them or a straight edge. If I understand your question correctly. I’ve been looking at the 5000 series and can’t find a difference from this saw other than the cast wings. I was curious because the price difference is large for just that option but I may be missing something. Thank you again for watching and subscribing!!

When I was looking for a saw my options were either this or the DW7491. I went with the Dewalt mainly because space is tight and I need my equipment to be easily moveable. That said, I don't think you can really go wrong with either as an entry saw depending on your needs.

If you take the table extenders off and drill out the mounting holes you can get more adjustment also buy some shim stock and shim between the table and the extended table(wings) this will help get everything flat my rigid had the same issue I did this and it works well now, a little time consuming but works smoothly.

Hello, good rundown of this saw. I bought the 36-725 two years ago when the one you have was just being introduced but there isn’t much of a different. Some of what you talked about like the steel wings can be brought into better adjustment with some careful tweaking. No they don’t act like cast wings but they can be trued up pretty good. Adjusting the blade to the miter slot and the fence to the miter slot are easily done and once set they hold very well. I like the wheel system even though my old concrete floor is cracked and has small holes it still wheels around ok. I paid $599 + tax at Lowes but the next saw that was a step up I considered was a Jet ProShopII at about $1800. That saw has the trunnions attached to the cabinet not the table. BTW this saw is a lot better than buying an old Craftsman contractor saw that’s missing parts and will need a rebuild. This saw has a good riving knife and blade guard with adequate dust collection.

A question regarding adjusting blade to miter slot, is there a specific screw adjustment designed into the saw or did you find your own way? I haven’t found this specific answer. My old rigid does not.

Delta Machinery tech support provided me with a great color e-document with text and diagrams, contact their customer service for the information they have been very helpful. The BTW another tip about this machine, I have found thin kerf blades do not work well with the riving knife. The factory Delta blade is an odd 0.100” kerf thickness while thin kerf are usually 0.092” (3/32”). The riving knife is stamped to use with a minimum blade kerf of 0.100”. If you aren’t using the original blade with the riving knife use a full kerf blade (0.125”).

This video just showed up on youtube. I can understand what you say and the points made are accurate. I have a much older Ridgid tablesaw >>> 2424TS, had it for 20 years. I have built furniture with it mostly but did some cabinets too. My saw is almost a copycat of the old craftsman 113 series ( got three of them) but I run 220 on it. I had a regimen of biweekly checking tolerances before I shut down the mold making shop. Never had any trouble with accuracy, always within 1/64 of an inch true. Just take the time to learn the tool, it will take care of you.

Great review! Your honest and informative review of the fence (and price!) was my deciding factor. I have my father's 65 yo craftsman 8", with a little jointer that shares the motor with a belt drive. Time for it to go. My space is limited, which was steering me towards a job site saw. Now am considering building the 36-725T2 into a table on casters, with a wide wing to the right, and maybe a swing-up on the left. Ditch the lower tubular support. Outfeed is an issue. Would LOVE to be able to handle 4x8 sheet goods. Anyone tried this?

I still love this saw. I was just out in the garage looking at it. Now that I own about seven jobsite saws I could get rid of the Delta to save space but none of them compare to this quiet, heavy contractor saw. I’ll probably keep it for years. It pulls over 70 amps at startup which is why it needs its own circuit. Thanks for watching Michael!

Hello Tom! The Delta turned out to be a bigger upgrade than I expected and it’s really changed the way I work. The old ryobi chop saw you see in the corner in the vid almost never gets used anymore unless I’m cutting long dimensional lumber. I can do miter cuts on the delta faster, more accurate and with less dust than the chop saw and there’s no setup! Thanks for watching!

I have had the Delta 36-725 model for about 6 years. Very pleased with it. Don't give up on getting the stamped wings flat. It takes some time, but can be done. Don't know about the model you have but the one I have has a switch on the motor for 220v operation. I have had it on that for about two years and seems to be stronger and smoother running. I am interested in the DNC blade insert you got for it. Would love to have a link .

Hello Dgrasha! Im no electrician but I believe on 220v you run less amps and therefore less heat and more longevity. When we built the garage I put in a 100 amp sub panel and 3 220v plugs, possibly my favorite house upgrade to date👍. Ill put the Etsy link for the table inserts in the description for everyone. The only issue I found with my saw was the table was not dead flat, in my case when standing on the feed side of the table the outer left edge of my table was a bit proud front to back, so I ended up hitting the outer edge with a metal file using light passes until it looked good when using a straight edge across the table, to finish up I used 220 running up to 600 grit sandpaper until it match the finish of the rest of the table, now there are only a few places where you can’t quite fit a piece of paper between a straight edge and the table. I used a fine metal file and I also used a black paint marker on the area that I was filling, as soon as all the paint was removed I would check with a straight edge and repeat until I got ride of that proud edge. This process took me about 5 hours from start to finish, probably could have been quicker but I wanted to take my time to make sure I didn’t damage the table. Another easy option that probably would not cost much is remove the the motor and all components from the table, then take the table top to a machine shop, I doubt it would take them more than an hour to make the top dead flat, and honestly it would still cost less than a decent cabinet saw. As for the wings, I may have gotten lucky but I was able to clamp them in place and tighten everything down with no issues. I actually ended up sanding the paint layer off both wings prior to installing them as I wanted the wings to better match the table finish. As I see it I will not be upgrading to a cabinet saw from this saw, its pretty much dead flat now and built into an out feed table, I did not attach the legs, I built a nice out feed table on heavy duty casters and it’s absolutely perfect.

This was a great review. This saw seems to fill a pretty big gap in the market for an intermediate type saw between the smaller job site saws and the big boys. Just the fact that you can dial in the fence scale, and it actually remains reliable after taking the fence on and off, puts it head and shoulders above most job site saws.

I have this saw and I absolutely LOVE it. I upgraded from a jobsite saw and the difference is unbelievable. The extra size is very handy. I adjusted it once when I bought it 1 year ago and have not touched it since. My extension wings are apparently flatter than the reviewer's wings. The cast iron table seems to be relatively flat. Not perfect perhaps, but light years ahead of my old saw. I am sure if you spent $4000 on a SawStop you would probably get a SLIGHTLY more accurate saw, but really guys, are we machining steel, or wood? And wood is a natural material that moves anyway. Bottom line, this is an awesome saw for the price, an incredible deal that I would highly recommend. I am not a professional but am a serious hobbyist that is constantly working on one project or the next and this saw has had heavy use and never let me down. I also installed my router table between the arms on the right and what a game changer in my small shop! Excellent review, I love your videos.

Triton has a contractor saw module i was looking at as well and i’ve been surfing fb marketplace for compound miter saws for like 70-90 bucks. I’ve got a bunch of delta table saws marked on fb marketplace and craiglist too but i’m nervous about how well people take care of their fences and gauges.

I also have this table saw. I had to adjust the blade insert so it was level with the cast iron top. If you are cutting small pieces of wood, then it has to be level with the top of the saw to get a perfect 90 degree cut. I wish that it was possible to wire the motor for 220 volts, but it is not. The motor draws 15 amps at 110v so it really puts a strain on the wiring in the shop. I will re-wire it in the (hopefully) near future. For the price of the saw, it will do what I need for now.

I've watched several of your reviews and really appreciate the effort you put into them. I did purchase the Delta Table Saw. I understand the wobble issue with the throat plate and di go to the link that you provided. There were several options but none had a good description and some had multiple options without a good description. I take it the idea of this aftermarket plate is to help with the wobble and to keep the dust from jamming up. Am I correct? Since this video is now older do you still endorse this cover or has something maybe better come along? Again thank you!
