Gucci is a 1 year old Cane Corso. Built like a machine with eyes that stare into your soul, he makes people cross to the other side of the street from a mile away.
Unfortunately I used a new editor and didn't realize it didn't save this video in HD 😥, a second HD version video has been posted.

There's a Cane Corso in my apartment building. When it came into the elevator with my Miniature Schnauzer and me, I thought I was a dead man. I've never been so intimidated by any other dog, it's so terrifying -looking. Turned out it was a total sweetheart, but I'm telling you, the mere sight of them is a real sphincter shrinker.

My dog is a deer head chihuahua and she is feisty mainly bc she is protective. It is like she was trained to be a guard dog before we got her. Once we deem you safe she warms up to so much she even shows her belly as a sign of trust (if you don’t know if dogs show their belly they trust you bc they think you won’t slash their guts out). She is like my little sister and we have had her since I was 3 and I am currently 13 right now and she is 11 🥰. I love her with all my heart and I will be SO devastated when she leaves this Earth oh Chile I am tearing up thinking about it. 😭😭

I walk dogs, and took care of two of these guys. The female (I called her Lu-Bell) was EASILY the biggest (physically and metaphorically) baby I've taken care of in five years of pet care. She had a Binky Kong toy. Aside from her people and food it was the thing she cared most about, and you could throw her into a frothing, stump tail-wiggling tizzy by taking it to play fetch. She just wouldn't give it back after the first throw, but she LOVED when you tried to get it. Her brother was also a great big baby, he was kind of introverted though and was all about the lovins. Lu was above and beyond with the goofy baby status, though I wouldn't want to see what they might do to a burglar. The first time I showed up to meet them, I got out of my truck and started up the walk. On the other side of the stained glass door window I saw this MASSIVE dark form that stood a good bit taller than me launch itself at the door with a big deep "ROWF!", which shook the very solid door. There was background woofing too, I later learned her brother Shoe was dancing in a frantic circle barking at the intruder because Lu wouldn't let him near the door. Now, I specialize in large breeds that many other sitters/walkers won't deal with, and it was still a little intimidating. Lu could stand on her hind feet and put her front paws on my shoulders, IF her owner allowed it (like Gucci they were also super well trained, a Very Good Boy and Very Good Silly Girl ). At 5'7" (1.7 m) I am NOT short. They were just great, and I miss them both so much! I moved to a different state and their owner just wouldn't let me have them, though I tried! 😭

That dog was a sweetheart as a puppy and the owner is a dog trainer by profession so a good combo. 4 of those I've known since they were puppies and the one friendly was super happy and brave as puppy. The other 3 were skittish and highly suspicious of strangers. And now they're unstable adults.

A lot of people have commented this, but Cane Corsos require a lot of training and attention, to the point that many households are unable to keep one unless at least one person is able to stay at home and basically treat training as their job. No "This is just a big pupper!" Or "Look at those sweetie snuffles what an innocent baaaaby" No, this is a massive, massively powerful dog bred to guard against _anything_ it deems a threat from cats to bears to men with guns and shower hoses and needs to be socialized with a specific groomer for a _long_ time to only reasonably ensure safety.

Well some dogs are rescued, coming from families who were too poor for professional grooming or who's circumstances deteriorated and weren't able to take care of their dogs as well as they'd hoped. For example I own a great dane and when I got her, I was able to work to afford all she needed, I got her at 1 year old from a family who were to poor to even feed her properly. She was way too thin and not very well socialized. I worked very hard to lessen her anxieties but when I became ill, I wasn't able to keep bringing her to the dog park where she had been exposed to dogs and humans regularly, so she started reverting back to her old anxieties, being scared of men and reactive to bigger dogs. I'm personnally blessed that friends help me with her walks when I can't do it myself and that now that she developped a heart issue, one of them pays for all her medication. If she had been a dog who needed regular grooming I wouldn't have been able to afford it, or not as regularly, which could've meant that she'd become fearful of the groomer even if she once was ok with it.

@@allister.trudel oh I didn't mean those types of dogs, those can be worked with. I mean the clients who so do training whatsoever and expect you to dematt their seizure prone doodle who comes in every 6 months in an hour. Those types of clients 😉 Most dogs can be worked with provided the owner does listen to your recommendations. I'm speaking on the "entitled" ones
@honinakecheta601
@honinakecheta601 3 жыл бұрын
When we had our German shepherd, we groomed him ourselves at home. Idk how he would’ve reacted at a groomers with a complete stranger touching him... he was playful but easy to groom (because he knew us and was used to us,). But my mom knew that his socialization was not good enough for him to go to a groomer. I think if people can’t afford to train their dogs, then maybe they should do the research and learn how to groom their own dogs. It costs way less than taking them to a groomer and it’s better than your dog freaking out and attacking a groomer.
@Anon_E_Muss
@Anon_E_Muss 3 жыл бұрын
@@honinakecheta601 oh i am honest with clients about how their dog behaves and why, so that we can work together to make the grooming experience as stress free as possible. Usually people listen and do what's best for their dogs. I don't mind working with people on price if they're going thru a rough patch and can't afford it that's no problem at all. The problem is when people expect you to painfully tear out matted hair for hours instead of just shaving it off when they're too lazy to either brush their dog at home weekly, or bring them in every 4 weeks for maintenance. I'm totally willing to work with people if they're on a budget, but it has to be what's best and safest for their dog. Entitled people let their Maltese or doodle go months between grooming appointments and get mad when you have to shave the dog because the matting is so tight. Or complain because their poodle has seizures and cannot safely be HV dried, so they have to air dry in the kennel which takes 4x as long and equals a much shorter cut. It's all about context. I've had dogs with major behavioral issues from health problems or previous neglect become comfortable with grooming over the years, that is not a problem. Hope that makes more sense 😊 I want to make dogs feel better and look good!

There are some dogs that are just not for first time owners. Some people aren't willing to put in the work, and they don't look into the breed before they get a dog. Some breeds and some dogs of any breed, really, will cause a person to have to make life changes based on the dog. In my opinion, I make a promise when I get a dog that I will take care of them the best I can, and sometimes that means a sacrifice on my part. If you're not willing to do that, you shouldn't get a dog. I agree, his family gets a 10 out of 10.

@@maevethefox5912 Something similar happened with a guy I know and his Boerboel; unfortunately they still have the dog instead of giving him up to an experienced owner. The guy is one of those military "alpha" schmucks, and uses the old Caesar Milan method of "training" (read: pinning down and yelling at the dog). Sadly, the result was the Boerboel becoming insecure and killing one of the guy's other dogs, a female Doberman Pinscher. "Hard" mastiff breeds like Boerboels and Cane Corso can be great dogs, but they really do need proper guidance from experienced and responsible owners.

@@_Venvel I have a southern Italian Corso (they're bred different to show/pet dogs most folks have... Bigger, stronger, smarter and overall healthier) and my first words when folks ask if they should get one is "No, if you want a pet then get something else". They require constant work, care and attention to be stable dogs and certain things like guarding/protection instincts are at the forefront of their genetics. Patience is the key to "hard breeds" like Corso and others similar. The expectation you can train it as a pup then forget about it as it'll be fine till it passes will leave an owner with a wild, unstable dog. They're a full time job but the payout is worth it. Controversial opinion but urban folk shouldn't own dogs like these imo, they belong on farms with wide open spaces as their history and breeding intends, not cooped up in an apartment left for 8 hours a day while owner goes to work. Not to say it CAN'T work in that situation but they really thrive on working on the land, herding and protecting their livestock (Corso are great herding dogs for larger livestock due to their strength and willingness to kick a bulls ass if it doesn't tow the line).

This reminds me of when I was at the cemetery and this massive grunting boi came up to me. It was an English Mastiff, easily 200lbs. His head was massive, but he was so well socialized by his owner and so friendly. He came looking for pets on the head, and then he walked on. Big puppos are such lovely sweeties.

To be fair you shouldn't approach *ANY* livestock guardian; they CAN and WILL kill you. Even a medium sized sheepdog will absolutely fuck you up if you provoke them People don't realize when they say bodyguard dogs, it goes deeper than that; these are war dogs. They were bred and refined for bravery and defense, and it's VERY hard to take that out of them for even experienced trainers

@@MrAlb3rtazzo Frankly that is not the average or breed standard dog. Livestock protection dogs are different from mastiff breeds. The desired temperament is to be indifferent to even strangers and excited children. Vigilant? Yes. But able to differentiate between threats. A working mastiff is different then a pet mastiff. My old Italian Mastiff loved seeing people so much that she peed because she was so excited. She also never bit. More content to just ‘hit’ me with her paws. (My current puppy is another story. But she IS from a mix of working and show bloodlines.)
