Thanks to ‪@peanut3423‬ for helping me with the Spamton vocals! / alexrochonva
The second I ran into Spamton, I got the same feeling I did when I first ran into Napstablook when I first played UNDERTALE: I LOVE THIS GUY. What a silly yet relatable character. It's so cool how many different melodies and motives were weaved into this battle theme, it's like Toby challenged himself to see just how much could get crammed into one theme! I've seen quite a few comment sections on OST uploads debating over just what motives were referenced, and what each of the references "mean". Regardless of who's right or wrong in those debates, it's so cool to see people dissecting threads that tie different pieces of video game music together across the game universe of UNDERTALE / DELTARUNE. Super cool to see!
There are so many wacky harmonies in this battle theme, which was really cool to see (and also a pain to transcribe, haha). Most of it is based around constant structure harmony in which the melody is harmonized a minor third below, regardless of what the key actually suggests. This is pretty cool in this song in particular, since most of the melodic lines imply that this is in Bb minor, while the main riff in the tune starts on an F harmonized with a D natural a minor third below it, definitely not in Bb minor. A very fun and technical song to play :)
Special shoutout to ‪@peanut3423‬ for the performance as Spamton! I was initially unsure as to how I'd incorporate the vocals in this track, but I happened to run across his Spamton dub on Twitter, and reached out to him to contribute some vocals to this song! His contribution added a ton to the song :)

@@Loafusbreadmyre I was gonna make the same argument as you just now but then I realised that leitmotif's are quite literally reusing music. Not in a bad way of course, but it is literally a form of incorporating a part of one track into another (or others) therefore reusing that part of the track. I understand where you were coming from though because some people would make the assumption that it's bad music just because it contains recycled elements, when that's actually considered to be a positive trope of music. Leitmotifs are sweet. What Proto said was right in essence, he reused music in a smart way. The smartest way arguably.

These videos are so cool because you have a visual of how the different lines are constructed. You can see what the percussion is doing while the sax is going ham, or focus on the trumpet and pick out the warm tones of support it gives. And as always, you *get* the track. Also I think we can all agree Alex IS Spamton. He just is, it's canon, everybody else pack it up.

This is amazing! Would you consider doing a cover of “The World Revolving” some day? I always love hearing your interpretations of these songs (or any songs for that matter), plus there are hardly any jazz covers of it and I think you’d totally knock it out of the park!

This definitely captures the chaotic energy of the original, with 50 different parts playing at the same time, while still keeping the jazzy style. Balancing a much more coherent style with the innate incoherence of the original song must have been difficult.

If the original was a high octane death battle on a roller coaster, this version is the aftermath, when you loose and the boss makes a whole world themed around themselves and the theme you dueled to the death too becomes an amazing background track for your ensuing adventures
