We are on a California road trip along the coast, specifically the Big Sur section of Highway One (PCH Hwy1) in our 2013 Ford Transit Connect micro camper van! We are traveling from South to North and stopping at the must do spots along the coastline. Some stops include Hearst Castle, McWay Falls, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Bixby Bridge as well as sightseeing and Zebra and Elephant Seal spotting. We are using the GyPSy Guide itinerary for the famous Big Sur drive to make sure we are making the most out of this amazing drive! Some stops include Hearst Castle, McWay Falls, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Bixby Bridge as well as sightseeing and Zebra and Elephant Seal spotting.

The timing of you talking about the Zebra, then spotting them was incredible! I (Matt) made this drive the summer after I graduated high school, but Nat hasn't ever done it, so this is high up on our US travel list! Great video guys!

Purple sand, wild zebra, jade just laying around for the picking...what a great adventure you're having. Thanks for sharing and stay safe out there!

Looks like you had a great time. Quick note: minerals are measured by hardness on what is known as the Mohs scale, which goes from a scale of 1-10. Soft rocks such as talc and gypsum, are low on the scale, 1 and 2 respectively. Your fingernail is 2.5 on the scale, so if you can scratch it with your nail, then you have a good idea what it might be. Jade is 5-6 on the scale. Copper pennies are 3.5. Zinc pennies are likely a 2.5. The majority of rocks will beat pennies, so use a knife which is around 5.5 Whats your take on East coast verses West coast beaches? What are the major differences? Are they both chilly? Are there more cliffs in California? Wildlife? Culture? So many questions!

Thank you for the information, we really appreciate it! Guess we should have paid more attention in science class haha You are too kind! Thank you for your interest and questions, maybe we will do a Q&A soon to answer them more in depth but in the meantime, here are some quick responses: East coast verses West coast beaches? We both prefer East Coast beaches! Note: we are probably biased because we are from the East Coast haha That is not to say that the West Coast is not absolutely amazing because it 100% is! Again that is totally a preference thing and depends on what you are looking for in a beach. The East Coast, in our opinion, has warm/less choppy water to enjoy a beach day which is what we look for in a beach. The West Coast, on the other hand, has better scenery and a more drivable coastline. If you are looking for an epic road trip with stunning views, the West Coast is for you! The fog and rugged coastline are beautiful, but with that comes fall like weather and we tend to prefer warm tropical vibes as opposed to cool moody vibes when visiting the ocean. The Southern California beaches seemed to be really nice, and less foggy/cold, but people were still were wearing wet suits there as the water was cold even in the middle of summer. All that to say, both coasts are amazing and we wouldn't turn down a beach day at either one!

Thanks for this video of the PCH. We drove from Nova Scotia to LA in early October. Route 66 was our main focus. We left Burbank on Oct 08 and headed to Monterey, but, due to LA traffic it was near sunset by the time we were driving the Big Sur coastline and it was foggy. Thanks to your video, I got to see what we missed.

Wow! Nova Scotia to LA is an incredibly impressive journey! That is amazing! According to our GyPSy Guide, the fog is the number one thing you see along Big Sur so it sounds like you still got the authentic Big Sur experience haha Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it and are happy you enjoyed it :)

Heather’s beauty blogger moment 😂 I think I prefer you guys sticking to travel content 😅 I love following along on this road trip. My family did a portion of the PCH (San Francisco to northern Oregon) about 10 years ago, and I do mostly remember the beautiful foggy, rocky beaches on the West coast. No zebras on our trip though!

thanks for the tip about Gypsy Guide, had never heard of it. also, my favorite spot on the 1 is Pebble Beach north of Santa Cruz, not the famous one with golf south of Monterey, it has billions of sea polished rocks, like your "jade", as the beach.

the best time to be doing the California coast is October, almost no fog.

my last drive down, north to south, we were driving under the fog for miles, not in it. It felt like we were in a tunnel for those miles.

Hey guys I was watching your last route 66 video and i was wondering why you guys drilled holes behind the drivers side visor? Is that to get airflow behind there?
