BIG Turbo 500+hp Galant VR-4, AKA the Mitsubishi Evo's Grandfather

Before the Mitsubishi Evo, there was another venerated AWD turbo'd sedan in the DSM lineup: the Galant VR-4. AWD, 4G63 powered, and relatively light compared to any modern sheetmetal. While this car may look unassuming to most, it comes with some proper rally pedigree and a serious 500+ engine build. And SO MANY TURBO NOISES.

These cars were basically the Evo's daddy. My first car was a base version of this gen Galant and I've also had few pmmm AWD Eclipse turbos. I've always wanted a Vr4 so badly. I miss my Starion (turbo/oem widebody) and I will replace it someday and have one of these. It's such a cool bit of jdm history and specifically Mitsubishi's rally legacy which was actually quite a glorious thing for Mitsu. Tom's Turbo garage here on KZfaq is worth a sub and he's got one of these unicorns.

Nice build. I like old cars, still got my 1995 Saturn SL2, super light, with a lot of bolt ons, ported polished intake bigger TBI, header, polyurethane and stiffer springs, lots of potential! Cars are better built than bought, like they say.

@@LarryChenPhoto Yeah I kinda grew firm in the shop...😂 I think it have to do with that I work in a small shop and do everything (exept bodywork) One day doing a oil change and next day change bearings in a gearbox. Btw I Love your videos man! So much Beautiful pictures!👌🤘 And very interesting when you follow for example the baja race, when you show all the stuff behind the scene👍

@@jdmpwr4283 No it's alot of bullshit from the "right-wing" Sure we got some new people in our country and some of them aren't that great.. But it's not that it has been some sort of explosion of crime.

The vr4 has a proud heritage of ruleing the streets in the 90s here in new Zealand, only the DOHC TURBO Interplay mazdas were as deadly, full time 4wd.

That's a mint car, and the no power below 4k rpm is why people do stroker kits on these engines...VR4's are all over the place in NZ but still not many that clean.
