Looks like a den to me but maybe also to keep cool/warm. When snow was coming my Anatolian shepherd would dig a hole and curl up in it. The snow settled on her back and when it stopped she got up, had a shake and there was just a damp patch on her back, the rest of her was nice, and warm and dry. I would imagine if wolfdogs, like Anatolians, get bored, they are great escape artists as well and could dig out.

I have a regular dog😂 and he does this on a much smaller scale. Digs up a bed of cold moist sand in the shade and lays in it . Nature is a beautiful thing

Awe that's adorable. I had three and I'm down to one. They do love to dig, they also like to bury food I assume to save it for later. But the holes is for staying warm or cool, also when they are born the mother will dig a hole and put the pups in it. She did not like the male coming toward the pups either lol

This is very common among wild Wolves. This is denning, usually done by the male of the pair before winter and is completely instinctual.

In a hotel room - my wolf sleeps either under the bed, or in the bathtub. When in the semi truck , he often sleeps with the curtain covering his eyes. They also prefer to sleep on a hard floor if it's cooler.

My dog Tessa did this years ago right before she had puppies, under our house. She actually dug 2 tunnels, one was wider and flatter, the other was more narrow and much deeper, she had the puppies in the wide "room" which we could easily reach them and check on them, didn't know why she made a long deep one until it rained, went out to make sure the puppos were ok and the rain was draining into the deeper hole, Tessa and the pups were bone dry

We had a black lab years ago and he would always come to the beach with us on week long vacations in our motorhome. I laughed when we'd leave the campsite because over the course of 5 days, pup would always dig a massive crater under the motorhome and we'd almost get stuck every time 🤣

I had an arctic gray wolf for about a year and a half before I found him a home with more land. He did the same thing. he dug himself a hole under the house as well. When you can’t find your watch or your wallet or your glasses he probably has them in his hole. he will clean out twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. He will take back what he wants to keep and he will leave out what he wants to give back. Best of luck with ‘em. They are an absolutely wonderful friend for the whole family. Thank you for sharing.

Growing up we had a female high content wolf dog... She wouldn't be locked up in the house and she would break ropes and chains she got knocked up she ended up digging a large hole into the hill behind our house my old man had to wrestle her out of there and built her a whelping box needless to say she broke out of that and had the puppies under my bed. My mom and I were the only ones if you get close for a while.

My German Shepard does the same. He loves to make his own den. I thought there was something wrong with him but come to find out its natural for some dogs to do this. Now my kids help him and he loves it.😁

When I was a kid in summer camp, they had a big concrete tube filled with some sand on the playground that went underneath a hill. It was my favourite place ever, I always sat in there and "played fox" 😂 The climate was just really cool and comfy in there!

We had Huskies growing up. They liked to dig mainly in the summer, to keep cool. My dad would always stop them and fill in their holes. Being a kid I always wondered how deep they would have gone if we'd let them go. Dad didn't want holes in the yard so I never got to find out. Very cool.

I love wolf's I had 3 in my life my favorite was a timber wolf my dad brought it home from work. He worked at the exotic animal Paradise man I loved him so much. I also had a bangled tiger and a liger and a black bear.

I absolutely love wolfdogs!!! Had a German shepherd timber wolf mix and she tried to be alpha in our family, or pack, but to put an end to that we would flip her onto her back to show she was far from being alpha. Highly intelligent wolfdog! I miss her so much!
