Today we will show you how we got rid of the squeaking noise in our steering wheel. We tried this fix because our steering wheel on our Camry was super squeaky and noisyIf you have any questions, leave comments below and we would love to answer them. Use silicon paste or white lightening grease it will last a very long time. WD-40 tends to dry up and attract dirt.

Mine was EXACTLY like that!! Not WD40 but PB Blaster silicone. No more squeaky 👏🏻👍🏻WD doesn’t last but PBB does.

Question.. what’s the difference? In my head Im thinking that the silicone would lubricate a bit better because the wd-40 to me is more of a cleaning solution.. so in my theory you could spray it with wd-40 to clean it wait for it to dry then spray it with the silicone.. I probably have it all wrong lol 😂

Mine squeek too. Even Toyota service guys not able to pinpoint the root cause and solve the squeeking problem. After seeing this video, maybe I will DIY it.

Use white grease it last longer but u have to massage it in and move the boot around a little bit

I did it on my w205. There is rubber with yellow ring there. Push the rubber to the floor direction then lubricate with silicon lubricant in sprey. Push back black rubber and noices are gone.

I have a similar sound on my 07 chevy trailblazer , Can this happen or be the cause of the squeak on chevy's as well ? I only really notice / hear it when turning the steering wheel when car is running and I move the wheel back and forth a few inches from a sitting still / parked position ... dont really hear it while driving at normal speed , Maybe it does it a little at very low speeds such as in a parking lot , but it does sound like it's coming from the steering wheel and not outside the car .

Unfortunately I no longer have the vehicle. But if you just follow the steering column down it just got from where the brake pedal dance you'll look up you should be able to identify what is on the video. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

@@BigAlRepairs Got up under there, and find out mine is not as accessible. It basically has a boot covering everything all the way to a wide flared base attached to the firewall/floor area.

It's under the dash. Where your feet are when driving. Near the brake pedal. Look down there with a flash light and turn your steering wheel - you will see it turning. You can see in the video at the 1:00 mark

Hey, we fixed it by spraying a lubricant underneath by the foot petals. Watch the video and let us know if you have any other questions. You do not need to remove the steering wheel.

I’m going to try.... my son said it sounds similar to the sound you mentioned and he can hear it on the outside of the car... could that be a more serious issue?

@@Lglover001 You could always try it on the inside steering wheel and see if that takes care of the problem. If not you might have to dig deeper to find the problem coming from the outside

I’ve got a 2014 Ford Raptor , I’ve experienced some annoying squealing / rubbing noises within the steering wheel only when steering to the left on a stop or at an angle . Is it the same area as diagnosed in the video ? Thanks

WD40 dries up. Its really not a lubricant but a water displacement solution. WD40 with silicon or lithium spray would last longer.

Birb, the steering wheel attaches to a shaft (called a steering column) that connects to a rack (a long metal component with serrated teeth that links the two front wheels together). The steering column and rack are joined with a gear wheel called a pinion. I hope that description helps. Best of luck and hopefully you subscribe to big al repairs.

The problem with WD40 for that is that’s it a petroleum based product and a lot of rubber sleeves are not petroleum resistant. Great video but find a lube that’s not petroleum based

@Sketchy. The only way to find out if it will work is get up underneath the steering column and take a look and see if you can see that unit rotating. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

If you use silicone lubricant, the sound wont come back. I assume there was grease when it left the factory. Wd-40 is a water based lubricant.
