In this reaction, Charlie talks about what "flutter" is, which is faster than a standard, natural healthy vibrato, and how Florence Welch uses this in the song "You've Got The Love" and many other singing techniques.

i was 10 years old and was blessed enough to be sitting in that audience. at the end of the show, as she was walking off, i reached my arms over the staircase/banister/thing and she gave me a hug. :)

What video do you react to Jenny of Oldstones? I'd love to watch it. :) Florence is definitely my favorite modern artist, as popular as she is I still find her to be underrated outside of the UK and that's one of the many reasons she reminds me of my other favorite artist, Kate Bush. Florence has this way of . . . like you feel she was influenced by but still maintains her own originality to so many GREAT artists. I listen to her, I hear Kate Bush - Bowie - Annie Lennox - Grace slick - Patti Smith - Stevie Nicks all while sounding only like herself of course and I love that. Because it never feels borrowed or like she is just trying it out and it'll pass. It never feels un-natural or put on. It still feels like her though I can see glimpses of these influences in her. and a lot like Kate Bush, it's funny that you brought up Aurora because . . . I think it shows what an impact Florence has made since the start of her career. Because despite her career still being in its prime and early in it, she has impacted and inspired so many female artists in this (umbrella term, and I know it's the improper meaning of the word ) " Indie " genre. Like, I don't know that we'd really have Aurora or Lorde as she is now without Florence. I mean Lorde has even admitted to being such a huge fangirl, being inspired by her HEAVILY for melodrama and BEFORE melodrama even replicating a look and background + doing similar inspired dancing to a scene from one of Florence's videos more than once. and even if they don't know it / have been inspired indirectly it's hard to find a woman in the Indie genre not influenced by Kate Bush on SOME level.

do you want to see something amazing and beyond belief. There is an awesome song by Florence and the Machine , its called Cosmic Love. Listen to it. And then look for thecover by the O'Keefe Music Foundation, which is a music school that teaches kids with rock and metal.

You should look up Diana Ankudinova, a young Russian singer. 17 now but check for Rechenka when she was 15 or Human at around the same age. Her voice is amazingly different and like Floor or Florence it is instantly recognisable.

I have realised in many recordings her (excellent) voice is, on one hand quite dynamic, but also recorded with slight compression and driven slightly over the edge of distortion. It’s obvious also in this recording that this is a stylistic choice that works for her. My ears love it but my brain insists they shouldn’t. It’s very confusing for an old sound dude like me. :P

It is confusing because sometimes she has that true indie sound (especially in small live sessions) but in the mastered studio recordings it's very poppy and over done. Great insight
