Bigcommerce Review - The Best Shopify Alternative?

In this video, I am reviewing the Bigcommerce platform to see if it is any good and also whether it is a good alternative to Shopify.

Can you please do a video on Bigcommerce vs. Ecwid. I'm trying to find out which is better for me in building a new online store front. However I want to get a store and fingers crossed not have to move to another down the road due to growth. I don't want to use Shopify because of all the customization fees/third party apps. I hope that you can give me your opinion on which is better or a video that would be very helpful. I've enjoyed watching your videos they are laid out very well clear and understandable. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the wonderful explanation. Google PSI to me was a let down, but since it's CDN driven, I think it can be improved over time!

No problem, I hope you found it helpful. Google's PSI isn't perfect but it still gives you a good indication as to what they are looking for in terms of performance for a website, especially as most organic traffic will come from a Google search

@@EcommerceGold I just tried few Shopify stores as well. It's avg of 7-10 on mobile. Meh, it's the same lol!

From the testing I did, Shopify stores were usually in the 30's (still not great) but there are so many variables when it comes to testing performance that it is more of a guide than anything else.

@@EcommerceGold its great that you covered the pagespeed metrics which are crucial. Ive checked pagespeed scores of some of bigcommerce stores, and they were pretty low. But when I ran lighthouse (via chromes dev tools) the scores were a bit better. Didnt think that pagespeed scores would be different from lighthouse

Thank you, it was something I thought was missing from a lot of reviews as most would just say good/great performance etc but not back it up. I have found some discrepancies with different Google tools but I have found that what is reported by pagespeed insights, usually correlates with other performance tools such as Pingdom and GTMetrix.

Does anyone know how to sell in Multiples/cartons or boxes? on BC? For example: Keepimg the stock as single items but selling as 10, 20,30.. (1 , 2 , 3 cartons ). Please help

I think this could be done using variations, create a variation called quantity and then add values 10, 20 etc or however you want to label them.

Hi, you aren't really looking for an ecommerce platform, you would be better off building a classified ads site. There are plenty of plugins that can do this on WordPress, there is even a specialised WordPress Real Estate plugin that might be worth looking at.

@@EcommerceGold basically what I am looking for is C2C something similar to Airbnb. Do you mean that I have to go with Woocommerce and add the real estate plug-in from Wordpress into Woocommerce ? Do you think Woocommerce is better or CS-cart? In addition which one is better from security perspective ?

Sorry, I thought you was asking about a Real Estate site where for sale or rent adverts would be placed not a marketplace like Airbnb. For creating a marketplace like that, most of the main platforms like Bigcommerce, Shopify etc aren't going to be able to do it. Instead, you would be looking at more specialist software such as WooCommerce + WC Vendors, Ixxocart or CS cart. The only one I have used out of them is Woo + WC Vendors as I haven't got round to testing marketplace software as it is more in-depth testing than regular ecommerce platforms.

Bigcommerce is an ecommerce website builder, not a retail outlet. You have probably found a retailer using the Bigcommerce software.

I don't know, Bigcommerce just provide the software. You need to search for reviews of the retailer to see if they are reputable.

Love the review! Although, I am using ShopFunnels. It is a budget-friendly e-commerce builder with features like drag-and-drop design, inbuilt hosting, A/B testing, inventory management, profit-boosting plugins, and so much more. You can review this one too!

I think you probably work for ShopFunnels as this sounds like more of an ad than a recommendation. By the way, if you would have liked a review of ShopFunnels, this isn't the best way to get our attention!

It's not a sales video, it's a review. If it was a sales video, I wouldn't point out any negatives and really push people to sign up but I don't. Yes, I get an affiliate commission if someone signs up using my link, it's how I make a living, just like pretty much everyone else who does these types of videos.
