I had the distinct honor to see him in Virginia out in the middle of a wooded area that had a shack with a porch and the seats were long bleachers sitting in mud and they had built makeshift platforms up in the trees for the speakers. He was with Skeeter Davis the Duke of Paducah and two sisters also, but I can't remember their names. Bocephus was 23 at the time so in 1973 he hadn't had his metamorphosis yet but as everyone has said at one point, he gave everybody a break and he proceeded to leave me absolutely awestruck after he played the drums, banjo, fiddle, upright bass, electric guitar and steel guitar effortlessly and then the show continued. It was spring or early summer, but it had rained, and it was at night and the temperature got downright medieval on us somewhere in the low 50`s so we weren't dressed properly. Never let it be said that I haven't suffered as a result of my love for Country Music, but I would have sat in the snow as a result of my love for Hank Williams Jr, Entertainer of the Year 5 years in a row at one point.

Damn, I mean what hard times? We were all freezing but they didn't know to see my man Randall? I would sit in the snow

One of my favorite memories is sitting around listening to Daddy and the uncles tell old stories while smoking cigars. I would sit all afternoon on Daddy's footstool. By that evening I was throwing up, but I didn't care.

Have saw Hank several times, most of the time he would really ripped and be in the middle of one song and go right into the other. Then I have saw him when he would play every instrument and never miss a beat. Hell of an entertaining person. He is a not always as arrogant as you see on TV and pod cast interviews. He is actually a super nice person.

I also have been a huge fan since the early 80's and every single "story" or brag, that comes out of his mouth is the same crap he talked about 40 yrs ago, and frankly I'm tired of it. Who cares!!! Anyone that has followed him knows these things about him, or at least should already. Yeah, we already know Jerry Lee taught him piano, some of those rockers from the 50's where fans of Hank Sr.. Stop with the stories and focus on making a decent country album. The past few album releases have totally sucked. I saw him in person when he was like 23 in the woods someplace in VA. I mean man they had a shack where the front doorway was to the stage they all went in the back. We were on long boards sitting in the rain. The Hank Jr You have all seen on stage is not the Hank Jr I saw he`s just not the same but hey hat`s ok with me I`d still watch Bocephus in the snow wind or rain.

I learned how to talk listening to Hank Jr and Waylon Jennings. We once went and took a tour of the house in Nashville. We couldn't go upstairs because someone from the family was staying there - but we got to see everything else. A few of years later, we drove by the house ... at the same time "A Country Boy Can Survive" came out. There was a Rolls Royce and about 5 Caddies in the driveway. A Country Boy Can Indeed Survive :)

I grew up loving Hank. Had 1st row seats for a number of concerts back when you had to stand in line overnight at Ticketmaster. Now, I can barely stand his interviews and I've given up on his concerts. The same playlist, the same talking between songs, nothing is different.

From trying to escape his father’s shadow, to surviving the fall, to being canceled by MNF…I think he’s just become an extremely defensive person. Bocephus has lived 5 lifetimes compared to the rest of us. Even the late great Merle Kilgore who was a lifetime rowdy friend of Hanks said. Look, Ole Hank Jr is just about 6^4 so I ain`t gonna call Hank Jr Junior anymore!! He is the only artist to have 5 LPs in the top ten at the same time, I believe all 5 are platinum now. He won Entertainer of the Year 5 years in a row at the CMA`s which had never been done before that night. He has always put his fans first in an interview from the 90`s he said he had ridden 250,000 miles in a bus for the fans. When he was 14, they handed him a check for 50 thousand dollars to perform his father`s hits. In 1975 on a mountain in Montana he fell 500 feet down a frozen ravine headfirst into a rock that disfigured his jaw. teeth, ear and also removed his scalp and some of the top of his head. He just lost his wife here recently if what I hear is fact? He lost his 28-year-old daughter about 2 years ago in a car wreck. I certainly hope that his current projects carry him over the tide. I am also concerned for the next man that really pisses Ole Rockin Randall off because if you think he wont? Believe me he will......

I’d say he needs a little less of it kinda comes off rude in ways I’m a Hank fan but honestly would be disappointed if this was my interview now eager he was to leave and didn’t sign the record

@@calebbrightwell774 I was being very sarcastic, lol. I agree with you. I grew up with Hank and have always loved him. I’ve seen him humble and awesome, I’ve seen him drunk and a total jerk. He’s so full of himself here, it made me feel a little sick for the guys in the room. Sad to see such an ego.

@@TheRoadDawg An uncle of mine years ago bootlegged here in Florence, Alabama. One day, someone came in to buy some booze. He told my uncle a VERY famous country singer was in the car. I won’t mention any name. That being said, I like Hank Jr’s music. I feel he made his own mark with his own style after a few years performing.

@@rickeykeeton4770 I grew up knowing every word of every Hank Jr song. He was an icon to me for sure. I saw him at least 5 times in concert, from a 45 minute drunken disaster in Columbia, SC, to a 29 song (album perfect) concert in Greenwood, SC. I just hate that he has gotten so disconnected from his fan base and is such a tool these days. One side of me thinks he deserves to be so illuminated, the other side of me thinks he is now just a jerk. But I still live to listen to Hank Jr, especially the Live album. I saw that same tour/concert playlist, and it’s one of the best ever. Dwight Yoakum opened for him and came out for the medley…epic!

Hank Williams Sr. Was a talent byond ( any hard) competition...such a gifted man...why, at such a young age? Why Edgier Allen Poe? He died in his twenties? 😊
