The rate of price rises significantly slowed again in November to another two-year low, official figures show.
Falling diesel and petrol prices were the driver of the bigger than expected drop.
The rate at which prices increased stood at 3.9% last month, a fall from the 4.6% recorded a month earlier.
It's the lowest rate since October 2021.

The foolish tory cheerleaders will ignore that everything is still a lot more expensive than they were before inflation started rising sharply, are a lot more expensive than they would have been had inflation remained at less than 2%, and will continue to be a lot more expensive than they were before thanks to the recent well into double figures inflation rate.

Indeed. Prices are not cheaper. It's ok for Sunak and Hunt to say inflation is coming back down now and will soon be back under control, but everything will continue to cost a lot more than they did before compared to before inflation started to rise sharply even once inflation is back down to less than 2%.

Your incomes can absorb it so it's much better than us in S/Africa who pay about £1.50 for 100 teabags. A few can afford it, and we can go a week without seeing a Rolls-Royce on the road outside CapeTown and North Jhb. I could not believe how the UK are numb to their wealth, while queueing to get into Goyard.

Whilst it is the remit of the BoE to lower inflation, the government (and Sunak) can absolutely create inflationary pressures. Last year, if the government did not intervene to put a price cap on energy bills, inflation would've been far higher. By the government refusing to agree to 35% pay rises in the public sector, this too lowers inflationary pressures. The government refusing to borrow more money and pump more cash into the economy, again reduces inflationary pressures. The idiots here claiming that Sunak plays no role in reducing inflation sorely misunderstands the role of the government and the levers it has.

It may be good news that the headline inflation figure is coming down. But not all inflation is down at anywhere near the 3.9% as mentioned. But even when inflation is eventually back down to less than 2%, the actual prices we pay in the shops will never be back down to anywhere near what they were before they started to rise sharply, and also they will still be more expensive than they were when inflation was at its highest point even once inflation is back down to less than 2%. Sunak and Hunt will never admit that though. Prices will always continue to rise because of inflation, but the damage has been done in terms of significant price rises compared with before they recently started to rise sharply so quickly even once it's back down to less than 2%. The amount of a price rise at less than 2% inflation after a double figures %age inflation price rise will be a much larger amount than it would have had inflation stayed at less than 2%. People forget that or don't even realise that. People will still wonder why pricea are srill rising so highly once inflation back less than 2% even when Sunak and Hunt say it's back under control again.
