It isn't just that Louis served his country during World War 2, it's that he donated the entirety of two fight purses to the war effort. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $1,596,496.93 dollars today. That sort of generosity is unheard of, which only increases the cruel irony of Louis's later predicament.

No, you have to take the good with the bad. He was in bed with the Nazi party regardless. MANY "regular" people went along. Some unwittingly initially and some understanding full well. Former Nazi types reform ALL the time and that is commendable. Just accept the entire reality of it. Or not...That's on you.

@@rogerwilliams4742 Schmeling was a brave man. He stood up to Hitler. You never saw Schmeling do any propaganda for Hitler because he would not do it. He could have been murdered for it. I have no problem with Schmeling becoming rich after WW2 but I do have a big disappointment that our countries IRS hounded and harassed Joe Louis till the end of his life.

@@rogerwilliams4742 You have a very black and white way of seeing things. Schmelling in retrospect is a great man. If you know the full story you know this. Just because he didn't shout out that Nazi Germany was evil dosen't mean he was in compliance. It's not easy being in that kind of situation and I think schmelling handled it as good as any one wish they could. He helped several jews and he helped out Joe Louis. By the way, whatever Schmelling did or did not do the video is about the USA's betrayal against Joe Louis, one of it's greatest hero and that betrayal is true and disgusting.

Jeff horn beat pecriod fare and square mate it got re scored and 5 different judges from 5 different countries gave the decision to horn plus there were 2 american judges and ref pacquio got owned big time he wouldn't even activate the re match clause in his contract

ye he fought max schmelling twice . the first fight schmelling beat louis . but the rematch louis close on killed max . there was a lot of racism in the build up and joe took it to heart . they became life long friends after the fight . basically the us government treated joe like shit in later life .

Thanks so much! ‘Something that might be worth adding to your content: if I’m not mistaken, later in Joe Louis’ life, when his financial troubles became more public, I believe Max Schmeling actually came to the rescue, and provided a little bit of aid to the aging champ. Schmeling apparently enjoyed great financial prosperity after his retirement from boxing and had no animosity toward Louis.

Media always tries to paint mayweather as a bad guy. He may wag his jaw before a fight, but after there aren’t many who show more sportsmanship than he does. He always makes it a point to thank his opponent for the fight and gives them words of encouragement.

when he beat joe in the first fight it was a knockout . but on the countout he went straight over to joe and helped pick him up and sit him on his stool . but before the rematch there was a load of crap in the papers in germany and the us saying max couldnt be beated by a ( n) and that really pissed joe off . max was never the same after the rematch he served in the army but was physically knackered after such a beating by joe .

to the Louis part: one of the guys who is interviewed is getting something wrong: First of all Max Scheming did not have ties with Nazi party. The Nazis used him for propaganda but after he lost to Louis in the rematch, they dropped him. The second fact that is not mentioned: Schmeling became rich but he helped Joe Louis who was a good fried of him. Schmeling even paid the funeral costs for Louis when he passed away. Just want to put that right. Great video by the way.

A night out. And had my coworkers troll me into thinking call in time was at 8 when really it was 10. Had to shoot a press conference that morning then immediately run to the T-Mobile center from the MGM in 100 degree heat for the weigh in . No food hopped up on coffee. I was shook I missed my shot, and caught the last bit of his fist pump.
