Newcastle overachieved with the players they have available, 13 of them were here under Steve Bruce and are championship level at best. Our owners said they have a 5 year plan, this is the second season. we have played the last 3 games with the same players and didnt have the luxury of substitutes that would get into the first team regularly. No one is making excuses at the minute its a building process. At least we got points the cl where most said we would lose all the games. They have done the best they could which is what sensible fans asked for.

Everyone gets that and agrees with that, it's just that Lewis was so confident at the start and said they'd get to the semi finals and has said all season that Newcastle would be in a title race. Therefore I think Tom, Theo and Reev have every right to take the piss out of Lewis because he was very clearly wrong and way too confident. Most normal football fans (and most normal Newcastle fans I think too) would have agreed at the start of the season that Newcastle don't have enough depth this season to compete on all fronts and would definitely dip in and out of form, meaning they would struggle in Europe, and that realistically their best 11 when everyone is fit is probably not top 4 quality in this years premier league.

@@toonarmy8524 of course arsenal would have. i aint even an arsenal fan but to think they wouldnt finish top 2 in their group is straight up ignorance. an arsenal team who have nearly been on the level of man city for the last 1.5 seasons and are 10 points clear of newcastle already wouldve calmly dealt with dortmund and milan at home. and theyre much better away from home than newcastle this season

Arsenal fan is deluded about Newcastle's fatigue. Having 11 first team injuries for one game is bad enough, but when that same squad has to start 6 games in 3 weeks (ish) against opponents who aren't playing anywhere near that, it's obviously why there's a dip in form. It's down to having zero substitutes. Milan game proved that, they poured on substitutes against us and their 2 substitutes scored. Even as a Newcastle fan I disagree with Shearer, professional footballers should be fit for every game, but they are playing against OTHER PROFESSIONALS who aren't playing as many games.

I find the Champions League discussion even funnier as a Chelsea fan considering how much Lewis rips into the club. Even with how poor we have been this season and last, and how AMAZING Newcastle are, Chelsea did the double over Milan last season AND knocked out Dortmund.
