2024 has been a wild year for movies and tv shows so far, so here’s my picks for the biggest pleasant suprises and dissapointments of new #movies 2024 movies and tv shows!

X-Men 97 is definitely a surprisingly good one.

@@vetzmoviesI honestly think Kung Fu panda 4 was a big surprise for me and Kingdom was a huge disappointment for me. Kung Fu Panda 4 was much better than I expected it to be. It had a ton of action, genuinely good humor and great themes about change and Chameleon was awesome !! It was defnitely the weakest of the franchise but still better than expected. Then Kingdom got so rave reviews in KZfaq I thought it would really great. I unfortunately have a mixed opinion of the movie. It did have impressive action sequences and Noa, Rakka and Mae were compelling characters but rest was disappointing. The narrative felt disininteresting and boring. Then the movie was very slow and I think even after the first 30 minutes the movie had slow moments. Then Proximus I think is a highly overrated villain. Kevin Duchard does deliver a fantastic performance and he has an insane aura but he gets little to no fight scenes. Then the climax was very empty with no tension whatsoever. Sylva was a good secondary villain but why would he try to kill Noa instead of saving himself. Kung Fu Panda 4 had a pretty engaging narrative and Chameleon atleast got awesome fight scenes. Even Proximus gets very a late entrance in the movie and hardly gets any screentime. The bending the words of Caesar was a cool concept but poorly executed. Like they could have done something like Noa argues with Proximus that Caesar did not say that and Proximus says "You dare question Caesar." I will give Kung Fu Panda 4 an 8.8/10 while kingdom gets a 7.5/10.

Definitely Ricky Stanicky on prime video. I expected it to be a lousy comedy with celebrities to pull people in but it’s one of the better things I have watched this year. Definitely a good watch if you like comedies

Beau De Mayo already wrote season 2 which is good but Marvel confirmed they will be getting a new showrunner for season 3. They did say they will honour his vision for the show at least. If what he did wasn’t too serious James Gunn should hire Beau asap

I absolutely agree with your ‘Spaceman’ take, I was really hyping it up because I love Paul Dano and was waiting to see Adam Sandler in a dramatic role, not to mention Johan Renck, the guy who made ‘Chernobyl’, was directing it so I was super stoked and I got to see it at the cinema, but man it was such a miss, easily my biggest disappointment of the year so far.

x-men 97 has already been greenlit for a second and THIRD season already, making it the second marvel show to get three seasons, after what if! hopefully the next two seasons can live up both to the og x-men show and the first season of x-men 97. fingers crossed!

Afterlife was sick, but Frozen Empire just had too many characters to keep up with.

Yeah, Frozen Empire is a downgrade compared to Afterlife. It was messy but kinda fun, the cast each handled the role perfectly but it was just too much just like you said.

Funny how subjective art is. Civil War as a film is the best of year so far. The action and the filmmaking was incredible.

I love that there’s no big action sequences in shogun, and when there is the political lead up to it and just the lead up in general is done so well

I went into Kung Fu Panda 4 with low expecations and still felt let down. You have 0 reason to watch it over any of the other 3 films.

Bro managed to include civil war in the disappointment, not getting ANYTHING of the movie (and also the film was ready before the capital hill attack). The fact you were disgusted by BOTH of the parties was the exact point of the movie...

Rebel moon should be on the list. Its not a terrible but its is a huge lackluster. This makes me bothered by the fact that he made great movies like the 300, snow steam iron, for a moment alive, zsjl and the owl movie but messed up on the rebel moon movies. They were doomed from the start when they promoted it as: well if this pg13 version of this movie comes out dont worry theres the cut coming it has the important parts. They probaly shouldve released the r rated version instead of the one we got.

the biggest surprise for me was easily Challengers. im not a big sport movie person so going into it i was thinking im just doing this to say ive seen it but i absolutely loved it, probably my favourite film of 2024

I get why people would call Megamind VS the Doom Syndicate a sequal (because... yeah, its a sequal), but it is still basically just a long episode for the Megamind series, it wasn't made to be taken seriously, and it shoudn't. It isn't an insult of the original if it wasn't based on the original, it isn't a cash grab (it probably is) because it isn't capitalising on the original's popularity. It simply is just a bad movie for a bad series, which is a spinoff of a good movie

Actually video game tv shows do have a great track record. The Witcher is the only video game show that somewhat has a bad reputation but then you get both The Last of Us and Arcane, two of the best video game adaptations ever put on screen. Not sure what Twisted Metal's reputation is but personally I do think it's among the better video game adaptations. It's video game movies that's the problem. Yes, video game movies are better now but they're pretty inconsistent because in last year we got good films like the Mario movie and Gran Turismo and then we were fed garbage aka Five Nights At Freddy's.

Terrible civil war take. Civil war was about a FICTIONAL civil war as you said yourself. It wasnt about the current real world political state lmao. It was about a fictional one lol. Also that was the only criticism? How was it disappointing when there was one flaw(in your opinion) that wasnt even a big thing in the movie lol. Terrible take overall
