I like the idea of limp raising with 55 to balance strong hands, but only against tougher opponents. The pool you’re up against will not fold their pocket 88 or KJo and you will be in a rough spot if you don’t flop a set and you get multiple callers. Low variance route was the right play cause they will still pay you off with slow played overpairs, top pairs, or random bluffs like your guy. Against better players your hand is more face up the way you played it by min clicking turn, and with that board and action, not too many worse hands that can call.

My biggest was with 55 too vs 2 players. Flop was A35. They had AQ and 42. Turn blank. River 5.

I understand the desire when playing against weaker opponents to not worry at all about theory, but your opening sizes are very, very large and make it pretty easy to exploit. If you open for a more balanced size you can play a wider range, and play with a higher SPR(where opponents will make much larger post-flop sizing mistakes). One of the nicest things about 1-2 or 1-3 is that you're NEVER getting three-bet at the appropriate rate, so you can open relentlessly as it is just so rarely punished. That said, the larger opening size does minimize the impact of rake on your range(which already has to be so tight for a 7BB to be profitable). Before I switched to playing professionally I used to open very large as well, but the more time I spent studying/moving up in stakes where I had to play against other professionals, the more I was forced to try playing more soundly. Even when I drop down to a 1-2 or 1-3 game, I still just open 3x(4x if it's a higher raked game, with a tighter range) and then extra for each limper. Having the understanding of what baseline theory is allows you to see just how incorrectly others are playing and you'll have a better idea of how to exploit them. There are certain whales I still will open huge against, especially if it's folded down to just a few players remaining preflop, but genuinely if you want to make even more money/exploit people harder post flop, or move up to stakes where you have to play against the occasional other professional, it's better to adjust your strategy now. If I'm playing in a game where someone is opening to $30, there is zero hands I'd ever call with, it'd be a raise or fold scenario. It's just incredibly easy to play against large openings like that. The game-tree shrinks so much you're not giving room for your opponents to make bad plays(beyond calling 10x opens, lol), and you leave yourself to be massively exploited if even one decent player sits down. I say all this having learned all this playing against the same exact player pool, as I also am playing low to mid stakes in Northern California.
