When I was a kid king, the projects were beautiful in the sixties when I was very little I remember, that was in Louisiana, started turning ghetto in the early 70s , they had to be torn down in the 90s to much murder and crime was going on

Your absolutely right about this...I live in an area that is a little more secluded but definitely not fancy...because I choose to not because I have to...I've lived on a little higher end of living and I just wasn't comfortable with it...I just don't see the point personally...I cannot walk by neighborhoods of poor struggling people and feel right about crawling into bed in a mansion...that's just me though ..but I'd rather live peaceful and know that I've helped someone eat today than live in a place that you gotta worry about all your STUFF ..stuff you never use or need...seems pointless to me when you can clothe or feed a person instead

Kibera is divided,there is the vast main slum then there are three housing projects which are in the outskirts of the slum namely Olympics estate,Ayany estate and Fort Jesus estate,i once lived in Fort Jesus estate.

Slums are all over the world, but in viewing Mepesa those people walk with their eyes closed. There are more than enough people there to keep the streets clean, They can work together to help each other with communal dinners. Mothers could help the children to bathe and give them clean used clothes. I've seen in Afghanistan families living in the mountain caves with their children. They don't have much except their faith and work together for the survival of all. Their caves are kept clean, their children have old but clean garments and they eat together. These Africans are so many and could do so much for themselves if they just worked together. No excuse for the trash in the streets or children left in despair there. Thanks for exploring this, 🙏

Our Kibera slum is so much better compared to other slums in Africa like the Makoko in Lagos! You can see there are tarmac roads and even electricity, Wi-Fi, public toilets and water in Kibera! 😊 You can’t say the same for other slums in Africa 😢

Wow, all that trash. Coming from the US also-Do you think the people there have a different mindset than African Americans. Our projects have trash but not on this level. In the US- everything would have gone up in smoke (u know what i mean). I know they are happy there, but everyone wants decent living conditions. The difference is how much they will tolerate. Learned so much on Kiberia slums.

Nairobi is overhyped!

Kibera is a residential area that was reserved for world war veterans especially those settled by the British colonist mainly from Southern Sudan (the Nubians). But currently it's inhabitants by all people of Kenya. Until recent, residents of Kibira had no title deeds as Nubians were not recognized as Kenyans and could not own land. (Nubians are now Kenyans) Although, the government of Kenya has made minor strides to provide better housing projects, many residents either lease or rent out their project homes, preferring to remain in the slum. Slums in kibera are not projects as compared to USA. In States, projects are constructed by government to alleviate leaving standards of low income residents. Kibera on the other hands, is an abetriary acquired space and randomly built structures by residents in defiance of city ordinance. Hence making them illegal. (Nubians and other inhabitants have been acquring land titles recently). But due to poor governance and economic restrains, the government in return turns a blind eye and let the slum thrieve. It's like a win, win situation.
