I rescue a lot of older pets. 2015 I rescued my older Shaymus he was 11 or 12 at the time. Someone surrendered him because they found him with his owner who passed away. He was laying beside her for over a week. So poor guy was traumatized plus he had butt cancer but they removed it. They told me you might get 1 or 2 years or more depending on him and his system. He was a absolute gem. So kind, laid back full of personality big loving senior dog. Plus I had my other rescue Shadow who was found tied to a dumpster (2007) she was smitten over Shaymus. So we walked short walks played you name it he was my baby. 2 months before Shaymus passed I noticed some slowing down but never really took as he was about to leave me. One day he was laying under the kitchen table lifeless. My heart sank and I knew deep down it was his time. But my heart wanted him to be ok. But he started taking seizures and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. Oh I was devastated I held his paw and said he was a good fur baby and he was about to meet his previous owner and be pain free even though my heart was breaking into a million pieces. So I know how Mama feels that was June 1st 2017. My Shadow a year later took bladder cancer and she was my sweetheart baby I had her for 11 years she just got me knew when my sugars were high or low or when to calm my anxiety by giving me hugs she just saw me through a lot. But June 15 2018 I had to put her down. So I lost my babies so close to each other. I have 4 fur babies now who are super young but you always have that worry.🥺🥺💔💔 I'm so genuinely happy for you Nate and that things are looking up for you. Be there for Mama and be kind pets are like our kids and our hearts break when something happens to them. Sending so much love and hugs to you, @MamaAppetite and the BGAcrew always. We never had to put our dog down but was lucky enough that our dog who was old and sick (water in his lungs, heart disease) died in our arms at home. We were unprepared as he always ate and on Sunday Night Football (since we are in Germany) my husband was still awake and saw him collapse. He woke me right away and we were by his side also trying to stay calm, petting him. He stopped breathing and then his heart stopped. I called our vet who is open for emergencies 24/7 and she was so nice and understanding letting me talk about what we just experienced. I am convinced you made the right decision because it is not about quantity but quality of life and if he was in pain there wouldn’t have been any sense in letting him suffer. 😘😘😘

So sorry to hear about your little baby passing away 😢. I know the feeling all too well because I’ve lost a baby myself and the one I have now has dealt with many health problems. And congrats on the settlement Nate!❤️

I'm sorry for your loss, I recently lost my Cat back in October. She was 19 years old and part of me thought she was going to live forever, then she ran away from home for a week and I thought a Coyote got her. She returned a week later and I was so glad but she started rapidly getting weaker and weaker and eventually stopped eating and drinking, it was obvious her time was coming soon so I tried to make her confortable since I had no way of taking her to the animal hospital. She eventually passed away in my arms and I buried her under a Willow tree the next day after spending that whole night uncontrollably weeping. I still miss her so much but I'm glad she's no longer suffering and she lived an exceptionally long life filled with joy and out lived her own daughter by almost 7 years. I hope your dog is finally at peace.

We got my dads cat when he passed away. Had him for a little bit. Can’t remember what the diagnosis was when we took him to the vet. But I know it was not good and yes he the cat was in bad pain. I felt like the rest of my dad had just past way. Loved his cat. Both me and my twin cried for days.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My daughter lost her cat 3 years ago and it's been a grieving process. Her cat lived 17 years, my daughter waa 4 years old when Chica, her cat came into our lives. She actually died in my daughter's arms. She is still and will always be missed, but she also was given a wonderful life and was well loved and cared for. Big hug to both of you, but especially your mama. So excited about your good news. God is good!🙏

Nate and Mama A I am so sorry for your loss. When my wife and I were younger we would really feel guilty about letting go of our animals. Over 32 years together we have been blessed to have many animals including dogs, cats, birds and ferrets. As we got older it didn't become easier but we felt it was a blessing to be able to end their pain. We let them go with dignity. Most of them died of cancer. They lived a full happy life spoiled every day and loved more than you know. The loss is huge and the grieving is so very painful. Hugs to you both and know that what you did was an act of love. The pain is now stopped for him and he is in a much better place waiting for you to join him some day.

So sorry for your loss our little girl was really sick and in a lot of pain we had to put her down and my daughter still cry’s over her loss

I'm so sorry for your loss! My family and I had to put our German Shepard down last year at 10 years old due to cancer as well. She suffered from seizures for a couple years before. Then we started feeling lumps throughout her body & it progressed quickly 😞 I know a loss like this isn't easy but like you said he lived a LONG, BEAUTIFUL life ❤️

We have had to put a couple of our pets down over maybe years and it never gets any easier but your a great person for not letting them suffer, it’s still so hard knowing that they are not here with us anymore but them not suffering is important ❤️ we had to put our dog down about 4-5 years ago because her back legs gave out at 10 years old and we had them come to our house to do so, my parents and I were around her and she actually had a tear come down her face which made it even harder to see. She knew what was happening but knew we loved her so very much. We still talk about her a lot and miss her more then she could ever imagine

Im so sorry for your loss.. its always hard loosing your animals cause they are your best friends and little loves. About a year and a half ago my grandma and I had to put our teddy bear down. He was blind only had one eye he was 15 years old. We decided it was time for him to go to heaven because he was struggling to walk and having a hard time eating. It was hard because he was my grandmas and my baby as well. But in the end we know he is at peace with the lord and not in pain. OMG! I’m so sorry for your loss. I had to put my fur baby of 17yrs down last year. My Charlie was sick for 7 days. I couldn’t stand to see him not walking or eating. The vet said he was in heart failure. So, I made the hard decision to let him go in peace. Loss of a pet is the same as losing a family member.

I didn’t have to put my dog down but 3 years ago my dog was outside using the potty and started chasing a car and got hit and died. He always got McDoubles too! I named him after his favorite food. Mac and cheese! His name was mac. We had him for 14 years. I got him in high school and he lived long enough to meet and play with my kids. I miss him everyday.

My sweet Cora had cancer, we had to put her down because it was to far gone. We didn't want her live in pain. In the end she was on daily pain killers to help while the family said their goodbyes. She was 13 also and lived a very good life. As a a dog mommy it was the best for her, even though we wanted her here longer, we had to make a non selfish choice to let her and be in piece.

He lived a long life for a dog. We have to feel blessed that we had them and that they weren’t in an abusive home. I had to put a few dogs down bc of age and sickness. It’s devastating but sometimes we have no choice. Now I have two cats. One who’s 13 and strictly indoors but has cost us 10k. We have done all we can and now it’s just in Gods hands. Putting animals down is the hardest decision ever, but you need to remember that it is merciful if the animal is suffering. In my industry, I have held an animal’s “hand” at the last moment, very difficult, hugs to you both. So glad that unfair situation is resolving itself! 🥰

My first pup a (lab cross staff), had cancer under the tongue, he was 12 and could eat treats but found it hard to put his tongue out for water and dinner! Then Boo our pug was a one eyed wonky dude that had 10 years after rescue, poor dude went blind one campout and we found out his remaining eye was ulcerated and it had blown. That little dude could teach the world how to act respectfully. He was a one off- my beautiful dogs couldn’t compare (for different ways) x

I’ve never had to put one of my dogs down, only a few of my kitties (crazy cat lady). But every single time I have had to do it, there is always a part of my mind that tells me I could have done more, or I could have done something different… In the end, that is our (human’s) way of grieving, denial😔 Our mind doesn’t grasp the full logic, rather it pays attention to the feelings and causes so much confusion. You guys made the right decision in the end, like you said, that baby was so spoilt and loved, and I guarantee you he knew exactly how loved he was.

My sweet Big Guy, I had a German Shepard who was my protection while my husband worked out of town. Yes I spoiled him as well . We enjoyed him for many years . But when he could no longer move around on his own , propping him up against walls or outside fences to enjoy life as long as possible ; the decision was made. It is heart wrenching to say the least. I brought him home (not cremated )and buried him. I cried when my mother and I placed in the ground and told him I was sorry...all afternoon. R I P Kelson

Oh gosh yes, my Willie. A cat I had for 17 years. He was my best friend, my constant companion. He developed diabetes, and I gave him insulin shots. He just got so sick, I just couldn't let him suffer any more. So we went to the vet, they gave him a shot, and I held him in my arms while he fell asleep. I have never cried so hard. It was very difficult to do, but I had to do what was best for him. 😣

My heart ❤️ goes out to you and your Mama on the loss of your fur baby. I just saw a vid last night about the same situation with putting a fur baby to sleep.... I started crying uncontrollably because I had to go with my mom to have her cat Jazmin be put down.....so very hard especially when I have 2 cats of my own. I’m so sad that one day this will happen with them, they are like 16 and 13. One day I know we’ll see them again but for now the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge was for them to cross at this time.
