This ultra running documentary follows my trail running adventure racing Bighorn 100 miles Ultra Marathon in Wyoming - my first of many mountain 100 miles ultra marathons this season. This is also my 32nd 100 miles Trail Ultra Marathon over the last 30 months as I ultra run 100 miler monthly for the third year in a row.

Bighorn 100 miles ultra marathon is an in-and-out race in Wyoming with a rich history. Race weekend at bighorn ultra marathon also includes Bighorn 52, Bighorn 32 and Bighorn 18. It's a mountain race in the Bighorn mountains - with a mix of semi-technical single track and double track. The race goes up to ~8,500 ft of altitude - so not the highest but also you'll feel the thinner air. There's also roughly 20,500 ft of elevation climb - enough to transform your legs and quads into pudding. But more than anything, the course is notorious for the wet mud and snow - making it impossible to keep your feet dry. Be prepared for blisters and hamburger meat feet. Yummy!
It was a tough race for me - with very low energy. But mostly, low motivation. I hope the movie still does justice to this race - because this is an amazing ultra marathon. I was just not in the mood...I guess it happens.
Just like for Bryce Canyon 100 miles, at Bighorn 100 Miles, I was testing some Joe Nimble shoes on this one - Trail Addict Pro-R. I'll post my review soon - great shoes when used for the right situation. #flyabovereason #toefreedom #runabovereason @joenimble. I was also testing headlamp from Fenix HM65R-T - great headlamp - stay tuned for both reviews!
Next race is Quebec Mega Trail 100 miles on July 4. I'll also be able to spend some time with family and friends back home!
As always - Thanks for watching and remember -
Work Hard!
Believe in yourself!
Push your limits! Simon

Fantastic job, Simon! The audio and video are particularly crisp and vibrant, and the overall production quality continues to get better. I'm so happy to hear this. I'm very glad to know I can touch and help inspire others. Even if it was just 1 person, that makes it all worthwhile! The sport and the community has given me a lot, so I try to be a positive influence for others too. Running also came at the right time for me. I was in management consulting - living a really unhealthy and stressful life. Then covid hit and everyone was losing their job quickly in my firm (which for me would have also meant leaving the US, and who knows what would happen with me an Nora - we were together but not married yet). It gave me an outlet at the right time. And I want to share this with other. We all have different struggles - and ups and downs just like during a race - but this is a welcoming place, and a good place to heal.

Hey, I see you have an ultra on July 3rd! That is the day I am running my first ultra marathon. I just ran 8 miles last Sat and 26.2 Sun, and now I have a small recovery run today and then resting and stretching until July 3rd. I am only running 38 miles, but I think your videos have helped give me a realistic view on what to expect. I started running last year, and before this year, I had only ever run a single mile at once. Your videos definitely helped encourage me to keep going and I was able to run 603 miles in the last 40 weeks to prepare for my first ultra. Thanks!

Well, out of the aid station at ~93 miles, maybe like half a mile, there was a guy passed out. Some medics were with him, and later we saw ambulance drive by. Great to share miles, and totally agree with the cutoff - I saw your video (anyone curious, go have a look!). So stressful! You can't take the time you might need at A/S and all. We actually have housemates (partly how we manage to pay for those races), and sometimes they have dogs. Right now 1 lives with us that made a brief (unplanned) cameo in my terminator movie. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8qVmKymy5fJYok.htmlsi=A-E12OxcX2KOJ8mK&t=89 But otherwise it's mostly because of travel. We're so often on the road, it'd be hard to handle. So right now we have the perfect situation - we're like dog uncle/aunt or grandparent: we get to play with the dog, but if it's sick, we hand it back. And if we have to travel, it's not on us to find a dogsiter.

That's right! The Vertix 2S was (unsurprisingly) better than my older watch. Doesn't mean I won't go back to garmin some day - but right now, the one I have is little older. And would be happy to run other comparison too. But in the meantime, two watches is really annoying - it really hurts my right wrist (although I guess i could with enough time get used to it). So I'll only do it when comparing head to head (e.g., I should get the APEX soon-ish, and will compare vs. Vertix)
