Bihag is a traditional Indian Classical Raga. This Raga is a major scale Raga and is filled with romantic emotions. There are many vocal compositions in this Raga, telling the very famous mythological love story of Radha and Krishna. Megha Rawoot chose one of the bandish (composition) “Kanha bhar bhar maare”- A very famous Agra gharana bandish and performed an instrumental version of it in in the traditional style sitar playing of Senia Maihar gharana (Tantrakari ang) as she has been following this style and learning from Sitar Maestro Purbayan Chatterjee. She is Learning from him since 6 years in Guru-Shishya parampara and has been an integral part of PAAMF.
This Bihaag was performed by Megha Rawoot on the inauguration day of the PAAMF. She started her performance by a short alaap followed by a Masitkhani gat which is a traditional structure of the composition in 16 beat rhythmic cycle called Vilambit (slow) Teentaal and a drut teentaal bandish mentioned above. Harmeet singh accompanied her on tabla. He learns from ustad Fazal Qureshi ji. She was fortunate enough to present her recital in front of highly reputed artists like Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia, Shri Ojas Adhiya, pandit Purbayan Chatterjee, shri Satyajit Talwalkar, Gayatri Asokan, etc.
She comes from a family where no one has taken music as a profession. She has been learning music since the age of 9 and is a very promising artist also one of the few young female sitar players in the country and PAAMF is trying to help her to achieve her goals.
