Love the video mate. Where can we buy the harness and leads for Australians?

This is really helpful! I just have one question, how do you get your dog to not be afraid of bikes?
@TheHuskyHut2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The best thing to help with that is time and exposure. When we started we would have someone ride out in front on another bike so the dogs would have something to focus on while pulling. The person riding out in front would call out to the dogs if they got nervous or distracted. Over time, they will gradually improve until they trust that you will control the bike.

Are your dogs able to whoa? Mine are eating brakes on bike rides and I'm curious how this works as we will try sledding next season. Ty for the great video!

My dogs slow down a little bit, but they would not stop completely without the brakes. My first bike went through brakes really quick, but over time the dogs will gradually improve with the command. We do practice all commands (on-by, haw, gee, hike, whoa, etc.) on our daily walks. Thanks for the support! Excited for your first winter on the sleds!

Could you just use left/right ?
@TheHuskyHut Жыл бұрын
Yes you could. The most common is haw and gee, but whatever you want to say will be just fine.

that last exercise looks fantastic, but also a sure way of making my pup panic and drown herself lol

For some reason my dogs too were also terrified of the water. It just takes some baby steps.

@@TheHuskyHut it's a northern dog thing. With big fluffy coats, if they get wet it takes ages to dry, and if in the northern cold, it could be a death sentence. Huskies and malamutes

How do you stop them from peeing in every bush??? (Male dog)
@TheHuskyHut8 ай бұрын
I recommend keep pushing through and encouraging them to continue to run when they start the slowdown. Like most things, this is not an overnight fix, but takes time.

This was very helpful, but what is the dog needs to go potty? And what if they don't like water?
@TheHuskyHut Жыл бұрын
Another training exercise we do is train them to learn to go to the bathroom while running. This can take time to learn. We are still learning this. Juno does it a lot better than Timber. You can also make sure they get play time before to get poops and pees out. The water issue was a problem with my dogs to, but with consistency and a few scratches it will get better

any way to teach them to potty while running? or is it better to have them potty first and then only potty on breaks? mine can go on command so that’s what i normally have her do if we’ll be running, not sure if it’s the same for bikejoring
@TheHuskyHut10 ай бұрын
Great question! Yes you can train them to go while they run with bikes, sleds, ATV, etc. Even they know how to do it, I still recommend going before the actual run. The way I have taught is encouraging them to still run slowly while they go. This can be easier if they are running in wheel.

How to you get you dog to not to be scared of the bike and to pull?
@TheHuskyHut2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Time is going to be the best factor. The great thing about bikejoring is that you get to build trust with your dogs. With time your dog will trust you more and more. When we first started, I would run in front and have the dog chase me while pulling someone else on the bike. This got her used to pulling and gaining that trust that we would stop and prevent the bike from hitting her.

What age do you start training your dog
@TheHuskyHut Жыл бұрын
I usually start small training exercise around 6-9 months. This can be pulling a small 2x4 for 5 minutes on a walk. Just to introduce the feeling of pulling in a harness. Around a year they can be running with the bike or sled
