Bikepacking Iceland - A Week Long Adventure

Hi everyone!
Thank you for choosing to watch my video from my Iceland trip in 2022.
This s one of the most exciting weeks I've ever spent on a bike, I hope you enjoy it almost as much as I enjoyed being there!
This took a lot longer to surface due to around 150 hours sitting at my computer - sorry that it took so long, I know a lot of you have been asking almost weekly when it is out.

Hey! First off, thanks for buyung me a WHOLE PIZZA!! So honoured you liked it that much that you went from one slice to the box. The trip was absolutely incredible, it just ticked all the boxes. The place at 7:42 is Brúarhlöð, it's a narrow little gorge in the Hvitá River. Thank you so much for watching and for my pizza!

You, Sir, are a natural storyteller... or a very well practised one. Either way, this is the only 30min+ indy video that's ever held my attention on KZfaq - immensely enjoyable and inspiring. I took notes throughout, and will now be taking a spare derailleur hanger with me!!! Congratulations on an awe inspiring ride and an equally awesome video. You guys rock!!!

Looked a great trips guys. One you guys will never forget. What was you using for power? Just power banks, I can't see any dynamo hubs.👍

Hey! Thanks so much! We took around 130,000 mah worth of battery bricks, each. It’s a lot, but we had to recharge drones etc. I don’t ride quick enough for a dynamo to work well!

Fantastic film Allen. Was interested to see both of you had rear pannier frames. Would be interested to know which brand/model they are. Currently use a 15L seatpost pack on a full susser but looking at options for additional packing options. Have hadissues with fork mounted pods - especially in thick vegetation.

Thank you so much! Yeah, Barry had Old Man Mountain racks and I used Aero Rack. My bags were 20L each and it held perfectly. I did struggle with the narrow stuff. So did Barry, hence him falling off 😂 thanks so much for watching!

Thanks for the fantastic video. Been thinking about Iceland for a bit and now sure I want to go. Some truly beautiful landscapes you travelled through. Are those Aeroe spider racks on the rear of your bikes? Am about to buy a rack and was wondering how the non-Aeroe dry bags worked without the tabs for the straps to thread through. Were they stable? 🙂

Hey David! No, thank you for watching! Super glad you enjoyed it. Iceland is incredible! I had an Aeroe Spider rack on my Hunt for this trip. Incredible bit of kit. The dry bags were ok to be fair, 10L each loaded to the sky with food etc. When they stated emptying out they got a little baggy, but that’s nothing to do with the rack itself. Thanks again!

Hello, Awesome video! I will spend 2 weeks in Iceland at the end of July. I will hike the Laugavegur trail (4-5 days) and will also bring my gravel bike but I doubt I will about to do your route since some part already looks rough on a mtb. Do you think it's feasible and could you share your route map? Thanks

Hi! Thank to so very much for watching. I’m pleased you enjoyed it! Your trip sounds incredible! Your gravel bike will be faster on the smoother sections, but easier to push / carry when it’s too rough. If the gravel bike is the only bike you have, just take it as not every section is rideable anyway. Great film, looks like you had a fantastic time. Question is what is on the cards for the next adventure? ...also would be interested to hear how you both managed to pack everything you needed. Did you have to leave anything behind or want to include next time?

So pleased you liked it! I was thinking about making a what I packed for Iceland video, but I think it would have been a bit epic and probably longer than the film! We had absolutely everything we needed, except Barry forgot his head net, I didn’t remind him because he said he watched his Iceland film a few days before (but not up to the fly bit!)

Wonderful video and adventure. I am coming to Iceland this coming September for 35 days. I am planning to head to Westfjord from Keflavik. Do you think it is okay to wild camp in Iceland ?. I plan to spend mostly outdoors rather than staying at hostels and hotels as they are too expensive.
