I vividly remember touring the Highlands and Islands in '97. Barra was one of my favourites. I climbed the mountain above the village on a crystal clear day, and on top beside the statue of our Lady of the Isles saw the southern islands stretching away like the splashes from a skipping stone. The numerous ferries connecting us to further islands were wonderful, and mostly the weather stayed fair. From your vid you found some good places to eat, which we didn't ... back in the day.

A great snapshot of Hebridean life there Josh. In our 13 years in Scotland, we saw all of the mainland but never got as far as the outer Hebrides. We visited Skye often (usually at the end of July for my birthday) and the weather was extremely inconsistent. One year you'd get sunburnt, the next, you'd barely see double digit temps and the rain was constant, horizontal and epic. Makes Storm Hans in Sweden seem like a pleasant, passing shower! 😆

Hey Josh. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I come from the sun drenched Isle of Lewis but live in rainy Melbourne Australia. Miss home so thanks for the tour. All the best.

Heroic! I cycled the whole of the HW in September 2021. The weather was grim, but not as grim as what you experienced!

Just did the Hebridean Way southbound (Stornoway to Castlebay) in 2 days, including a century on the second day but I wish that I'd left more time so I could slowed down a bit more. Maybe next time

I’m planning to cycle this route as an out and back from the south to north, north to south…. Is this a crazy idea? Concerned about the prevailing wind 🤔
@flyingskier1913
@flyingskier1913 3 ай бұрын
@@cstewart3671 It very much depends on the wind. Overnight it shifted to a tailwind for me so I ended up doing a century from the Berneray hostel. Rather than doing an out and back I'd head to Skye from Tarbert on the way down and then the ferry to Mallaig, but that's because I avoid retracing my steps as much as possible. I was also coming from Iceland so as long as I wasn't literally being blown off the road I wasn't too fussed about the wind.

@JoshReid, I can tell you I just got my Revolt Advanced Pro Frameset and built it up and rode it. All I can say is WOW!. Everything, I was hoping for in an everyday flexible bike and more. Can't wait to load it up with gear and take it out on a big trip.

They’re very different. With the heat in Lebanon it was very difficult to ride far so for distance riding I’d choose Scotland.
