Make sure and take supplements for your water. You need to stay properly hydrated. Good luck and have a great trip.!!

Yes I learned the hard way to check and tighten every nut, bolt or screw on my bike everyday . Also, use Red Loctite on fasteners for luggage racks etc. I also carry zip ties and bungee cords.😂😂

Thanks a lot. I try to show mainly the trail, plus what I use to get it done, with a little bit of my goofy comic relief. I appreciate your comment. Thank you, I'm stoked you like it

I did this trail in 2022! Paw Paw tunnel was closed. Had a good time . I parked car in Pittsburgh and took Amtrak to DC and biked westbound. The first 20 miles outside of DC are pretty rocky but after that it was really good.

Nice very informative video. My brothers and I will be doing both the gap and c&o from Pittsburgh to DC. We start Sunday (October 29) I will also check out your Gap video. Thanks for sharing!

I honestly haven't started my gap video yet. This video is doing so good I wanted to ride the wave. Ots my most popular video by far. If you want to know anything about the GAP hit me up and I'll yell you what I know. Thanks for watching, people like you make it worth the effort to make these videos. Good luck and have fun on those trails, I sure did.

Thank you very much for watching. This was a really fun trail. There is so many historic relics and beautiful scenes. For me, it was totally worth using all this year's vacation.

I know it’s confusing, but you missed the first mile of the canal in Georgetown. When you passed the Swedish embassy you were only about a hundred yards from the actual mile “0”…it’s really hard to find. If you go around the Thompson Boat center, you’ll be at mile 0.

I thought and read that the stone marker that says mile 0 was the beginning. That's where we started. I have pictures of us in front of it. I lost the video that showed it. It was corrupt and wouldn't work

why did you not go from Pitt to DC and then take the shuttle back to Pittsburgh so you were riding downhill the whole time LOL great video. GAP is one of my favorite rides ever
@138modified

We did very mild uphill til cumberland, then a big 24 mile uphill then the rest of the GAP was all downhill. I loved it. I firmly believe that these trails would be equally as fun no matter which direction you ride. I will do it the other way next time thanks for watching.

The reward for finishing the C&O was way better than the reward for finishing the GAP. Lol. Steak vs half a day driving . In the end they both were great trails.

DO NOT count on those water pumps on C&O though. When I went through several were dry or even closed . Some were undrinkable. Some had heavy iodine in them. Bring a Sawyer filter setup because you might get stuck in between water sources.😂😂

Great video, I have wanted to do the C&O trail for a few years. Was kinda bummed when the tunnel closed, glad to see it is opened back up. How did your bike/setup hold up to the ride?

We got extremely lucky on the Paw Paw Tunnel timing. It was really something to see. As far as my set up, I can think of anything I would change. I went down the huge staircase detour and (spoiler) the stairs at the end of the GAP. The Marlin is a beast. They make great bikepacking rigs. Love my Thule panniers also. Glad you enjoyed the video. Can't thank you enough for watching and commenting.

Great video! I rode the C&O from Georgetown in the fall of 22 when the paw-paw was closed. I took the contractor supplied shuttle to the top of the mountain. I naively though that they brought you down the other side. Quite the trip riding the brakes all the was down with one leg off the pedal for balance. Had to get off and walk a few rocky dangerous spots. I pitied the people who did the trail from Cumberland!

hey jimbo, it was lumber that was carried by mules not donky's . and not coal.

"The canal's principal cargo was coal from the Allegheny Mountains." From the Wikipedia. No mention of lumber boats. You are correct about the mules, I said donkeys and was wrong. My bad.
