I'm born and raised in Colorado and have yet to ride my state's premiere bikepacking trail...until now! The Colorado Trail is 540 miles (867km), has 72k feet (22k meters) of vertical gain, and travels from Denver to Durango. In this video, I go over some of my gear choices and set off from Waterton Canyon en route to Durango.

Shout out to Baylor. The 'Get out There Kid'. You keep doing what you're doing buddy. Your future is bright. Regarding the car thing. It's tough not having a car, and from the very first one, they have provided ever improving, fast and long distance transportation, prior to which, the best alternative was a horse. The thing is, and I don't think this will be an issue for you, but don't put the bike away when you start driving a car. Keep getting out there for the thrill, and most importantly, for the exercise, and never give it up. This is coming from a 50 something year old long time mountain and now mostly road biker, and it's the best form of non-boring exercise there is - IMO. Bright future buddy!

"Inspirational" is not enough to describe what those videos of yours are, man! I am a 44 years old man, bikepacker and i also at some point of my life decided that i don't want to learn to drive and own a car. My mom also usually driving me to the starting point of my bikepacking adventures. You're not the only one but you sure are our "ambassador"! :)
@dudeonbike800
@dudeonbike800 2 жыл бұрын
I think we should distinguish between owning & daily driving a car versus learning and knowing how to drive. Everyone should learn how to drive. It makes you a better cyclist. And the reverse is even more true - being a cyclist makes you a better driver. Encouraging our youth to not learn to drive will severely limit their fture opportunities in life. Just being able to drive when necessary is a very nice benefit. And when traveling, being able to rent a vehicle is very worthwhile. (I rented a small car in Europe and was in Italy during a rail workers strike - avoided catastrophe!) Being there as a designated driver is a good thing. Driving in an emergency is another big plus. And riding a motorcycle requires "learning to drive," as anyone, especially youth, would NOT want to learn on two wheels, but rather a car. Learning everything involved in driving is NOT ideal on two wheels: WAY more power, more dangerous in emergency situation and and most importantly, complete vulnerability. But riding a motorcycle is something everyone should know how to do. Although dangerous, motos are amazing. And then there's the performance driving that people would miss out on. Cyclists make excellent performance drivers - they've learned the basics by necessity and are naturals on the track. Asking a person to miss out on all of this is not the best advice if you ask me.

I've ridden (road bike) with a lightweight backpack and for anyone thinking about this, my advice is to get something with a mesh separator or foam padding that is very breathable, or stick with frame packs. The lack of air circulation on your back traps a lot of heat and humidity. Perhaps Ryan, you can weigh in with your experience? I think your bike setup is terrific though, large wheels and no derailleur to get caught and damaged.

Hey Ryan, thanks for taking us along on another great adventure! Some of the things that have kept me with your channel and so looking forward to the next video: Love that you are close to your Mom and how much you appreciate and do for each other! In my book, that sets you above most right there and is a refreshing example of the great big heart you demonstrate over and over, along with your appreciation of the beauty around you, the joy you have in meeting folks and you share it all. Maybe it's time to design a new bike with a bigger bike rack (or just modify the one you have) for your own Mira! As always, looking forward to your next video!

Hello! from the Philippines, I love watching your videos and it's inspiring me lot to take a bike packing journey. I am a hiker by passion but because of pandemic most of mountains here are closed. I miss so much the outdoor but my bike is fixed gear just for city ride, so my plan is to save money first to build my dream bikepacking/touring bike and take the journey of a lifetime. And lastly I am grateful that we have the same perspective about not having a car, for me because I love walking, running and cycling. Ride safe. Kudos!!!

How much is that worth? Well it's priceless. And far less than the $5 a month that I payed. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm so excited about the Colorado trail. Can't wait. It's going to be tough going, but what kind of a adventure would it be if it didn't humble you a little in the beginning. It was nice to see your mom it's been awhile and I like her. She did a nice job with you. I have the same osprey backpack. I personally love the tool box on the bottom. When I first found you I could hardly believe it was possible. Someone so positive?? Hey Ryan I've been eagerly waiting for this series to start. I have now something to look forward to as I m not doing any biking at the moment due to the intense heat on my tiny island and I was getting very depressed! Looks like it's going to be another amazing adventure and I'm looking forward to the next episode!
