CHILLING footage shows the moment a man was left with brain damage after speeding at 160mph and suffering a horrifying crash.
The rider suffers catastrophic injuries after slamming into the back of a stationary truck on a South Australian highway, in graphic dashcam video.
In the clip, he rapidly accelerates and slaloms in and out of traffic before speeding into a devastating collison.
The crash left him in a coma for two months and he now needs full-time care and is unable to speak properly.
His wife has made the heartbreaking decision to allow South Australia Police to share the vision publicly on Tuesday to highlight the dangers of driving at extreme speed.
"His decision to ride at extreme speed did not just impact him.
"It impacted the lives of those strangers who kept him alive on the road and forever changed the lives of his family," the video's caption reads.
"Someone has to pick up the pieces."
Police say he only survived because of the quick actions of witnesses, who resuscitated him on instructions from calling the ambulance.
The release of the video is timed to coincide with new laws introduced in Australian state parliament on Tuesday enforcing tougher penalties for speeding drivers.
The laws will mean the maximum penalty for driving at extreme speed is increased to five years in prison.

These outrageous speedsters already know the risks, any attention will only encourage them. In their minds they are road warriors. When cops catch one, the need to take them to the hospital to meet freshly crashed motorcycle riders like themselves- it might wake a few of them up. Or require them to meet the families of those bikers that did not make it and hear their stories. In the end, they are too cool, rebels and living the life of danger- the ads will only stress out their families and friends. Not much different than anti-smoking ads, if you think about it.

Old bike racer here. Definitely do not condone this, which is why I really push for track days and racetracks if you wanna do this. He did the number one thing not to do and locked up his front wheel. If he'd accelerated out he'd be ok, just... A close call for sure, but not life ruining. Anyone can go fast on a 1000cc bike, but can you handle that thing in tricky situations? Do a track-day and ride with the pro's, don't do this stuff on the road, way too many morons out there. Feel bad for the guy and his family!

I currently have a couple of 5jj R1's and I can feel everything, the feedback the bike gives is almost life saving. I've ridden some of these newer machines and they feel numb, they don't teach you how to ride properly. I started out with a 1989 FZR exup. These new bikes are way too forgiving and don't give you any wobble's for the wrong inputs and is really difficult to find the limits of the bike. So you learn nothing and end up finding out your mistakes at too higher speed. No room for error.

I was involved in a similar situation when I was stationed in NY..rider was running away from the police, he was flying on the shoulder, when a few seconds later you see smoke up ahead. As we pulled up you see a minivan was hit on the driver side. A couple of yards down the road you see the mangled body of the rider on the metal median. A bunch of us tried our best but he was gone. You can literally see the shattered helmet, face just destroyed. Driver of the minivan was in shock as she just sat on the driver seat not saying anything. It was a horrible site to see.

As a two-wheeler myself, I would rather not have survived if I was going to be a burden on everyone for the rest of my natural. I used to look after a young man in his 20s who had attempted to end it all with a massive overdose of insulin. Unfortunately, someone found him before he fully succeeded and he was rushed to hospital, but he had already suffered catastrophic brain damage. He was like a six-foot toddler, couldn't communicate, tried to eat books and anything else he was holding, and would need round-the-clock care for the rest of his life. Sometimes, saving someone 'at all costs' is not always the best thing for them or their families; but of course you don't know that at the time.

He died twice in the ambulance but was revived both times. He then spent the next seven months in coma. Out mother sat beside his bed for most of that time, just talking to him. The doctors told her there was very little chance of him ever waking up, but eventually he did. She never gave up hope. The doctors said he would never walk again, again she didn't give up and some two years later he took his first assisted steps. Today, thirty years later, he still requires almost constant care and assistance. Mum past away a few years ago so he is now in the care of the state. I can't begin to tell you the impact his foolish, reckless choices have had on our family, he undoubtedly shortened our mother's life as well with all of the stress he put her through. My heart goes out to this guy's poor family, they are the ones who will be paying the price for many years to come, just so he could play the hero. Don't do it, if you care about the people who love you, don't do it.

I don't even know what point you're trying to make. Newer models of bikes have low-beam headlights that are always on if the bike is on, to make them more visible to other drivers at any time of day. It's a no-brainer safety feature because there are no negative effects, only positives. So I don't even know what your comment is trying to say... The headlight did nothing? - obviously, because this wasn't a defensive driving situation, it was just on because the bike was on. Headlights are bad? - are you stupid? Intelligent people speak when they have something to say; fools speak when they have to say something. Reconsider which better applies to you next time.

My job is driving. I drive hundreds of miles per day. I can’t tell you how many people passed me going over the speed limit. One day there was a motorcycle behind me that was revving it’s engine and there was it was a no passing zone. I still maintain my speed, though it eventually passed me illegally flipping me off as it passed by. A couple miles up the road I saw the same motorcycle that had crashed right when the intersection involved w sharp turn. I pulled over immediately dial 911 other people from nearby houses came over to see what was going on. The ambulance came and he was pronounced deceased. I still think about that day almost every single day.
