When Bruce and Jay submitted their Triumph bobbers to Shed Row for Bike Shed London 2019, we jumped at exhibiting these fine 'sibling' bikes.
Bruce initially took a 1971 Triumph Bonneville T120R, widely regarded as the least desirable Bonneville, so had no qualms in giving it the chop. He then set about creating somewhat of a bobber/cafe racer styling with clip ons and a proper custom frame jig built hard-tail amongst a whole host of other nice details.
The 'brother' bike came about when Bruce's mate Jay liked it so much that he wanted one. So they set about making another, this time to a 1971 TR6R Tiger.
They took learnings from the first iteration and tweaking them a little, and also converting the engine to Bonneville spec with a new cylinder head to allow for twin carb setup rather than single and extending the tail an extra 2 inches.
Watch the full video to see the bikes in more detail as Bruce talks you though what went into the builds.

Awesome bikes Bruce and Jay. I have a 69 Bonnie chopper and it never fails to put a smile on my face. I have the same springs on the seat and it does give you a back ache sometimes, but hey, no pain no gain. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

You can put cabinet makers wax (beeswax) on the bare metal tank to prevent surface rust. A little bit of upkeep, but if it's not ridden in the rain it will stay shiny.

Ragimund VonWallat it's bare metal, why would you need UV protection? I prefer the beeswax to a car polish because it's transparent even with a thick coating. You only need to buff it off if you want it super shiny.

I ride girder rigid bikes and they're the most fun you can have on the road. If you added some seat springs from an original rigid bike on, you could ride for 2 hours easily with no back problems! You're missing out on the fun of blasting round the twisties on a country road.

That airhead that rolls through the shot looks proper! 😜 Can't bring myself to do the OIFs like this, They make good desert sleds or with some steering head mods they are good street trackers. For me a bobber has to be pre-unit or just don't do it. I know there are thousands of unit bobbers, but lots of people make questionable decisions every day.

@@bruceseaton4812 you're right, cost of a project is always a concern! Perhaps a small tool box or something where the custom oil tank usually would go? The only thing I don’t like is the large gap/space under the seat, in front of the rear tire; I would have to build something to take up that space. Really good job overall though, I really like the stance of the bikes; from what I see when you take off near the end of this video, is, they look like the motor is strong enough to whip them around really well with the light weight you guys achieved by eliminating a lot of the things you removed from the stock bikes.
@pauliebots
@pauliebots 4 жыл бұрын
I love the negative space on these bikes, the oil in frame can give you that look. That's what makes the world go round. That is why I would choose an oil in frame to achieve those spaces. To each his own,right? Breather tube is a bit phallic though,dont like that. Looks like the bike is always happy to see you. Lol. Weird.

Just noticed the V below the Bonneville decal of the "ugly" before picture. If that is a 1971 t120rv ,that's not the bike you want to chop up. It is a very rare bike that they only made a bit over 200 of. Triumph pulled them off the manufacturing line in 1971 and gave them 5 gears and sent them to the USA. The other 71s are 4 speed. Look into it. Hopefully you just used a picture of one as an example and that's not the actual bike you guys built. If it is who gives a shit, am I right? Thought you may be interested though.
