Our new Hammock Casting Stand provides an even better capture of the underlying anatomy in the casting process. Using our compliant force distribution techniques, we now cast the user while suspending them in a fabric hammock - which provides a socket that is perfectly contoured to the underlying anatomy.
This casting technique allows for micro-adjustments of the fit simply by pulling the special mesh fabric tighter or looser to distribute the forces evenly across the entire seating area. The hammock technique distributes the load more evenly across a broader surface area - reducing point pressures, and eliminating the need for ischial specific loading. I am a 59 year old male left leg trauma hemipelvectomy amputee living here in New Zealand. My prosthesis has a sort of a 'modified New Zealand Martin bikini style socket'. However it definitely wasn't made in/with the suspended fabric hammock. Plus it never had the mesh. Your video narrator asks "Imagine the comfort of sitting into a hammock v a hard shell" - OH YES please! I can certainly see how the hammock design would distribute the load more evenly across the broader surface area thereby reducing point pressures [incidentally those point pressures are exactly what I am experiencing at present in the hard socket shell of my prosthesis] and eliminating the need for ischial specific loading. I am not a practitioner HOWEVER I would definitely like my Prosthetists to see this hammock style Martin Bikini socket. Does Martin Bionics know of any New Zealand Prosthetists OR even Australian Prosthetists who could be trained to fit this revolutionary socket for hip disartic/hindquarter & hemipelvectomy amputees like myself?
