Spanish Sentence Structure Series 2: Gerund vs Infinitive

When translating English words that end in -ing to Spanish, many Spanish learners tend to overuse the gerund form (-ando, -iendo). In this video, I go over when to use that form and when to use the infinitive when translating an "-ing" word. If you like the content, please subscribe, share, like, and comment. More sentence structure videos on the way! : )

Okay, I answered the questions right, so I am improving thanks to you. For a about a month now, I have been motivating myself to speak to Latinos at work despite my anxiety. The idea of someone laughing at me in public frightened me to be honest. but to my surprise customers compliant my Spanish although I am known to say a long order number incorrectly in Spanish. Although an everyday challenge, I work to set my ego aside as I embrace mistakes. I therefore accept this position as a child in the Spanish speaking world. Truth be told, I wanna blend in with native speakers to show mastery, but as we say one has to crawl before one can walk, so in other words, everyone started somewhere.

Proud of you bro! That's crazy how you're getting out of your comfort zone. Please keep doing so. It is the BEST way to get better. You're right about crawling before you can work.

Hey, I feel the same exact same way! I am on an app that connects you with Spanish speakers (or whatever language(s) you're learning and even then, I won't speak Spanish even though the people I speak with aren't 100% confident in their English speaking abilities. It's the easiest place to learn yet-like you-my ego won't let me speak. I feel like an idiot when I speak Spanish, lol. I'll never sound like a native but at the rate I'm going, I'll also never speak Spanish.

@@LostlikeNemo82 hi dont be afraid. .i was also very afraid..i had to figure places to go wherei could practice. I go to Spanish market an speak to the clerk. Start by saying Hola..hablas espanol? show her any item an ask "cuanto es?"She may want to tell u in English. Advise her/him "estoy aprendiendo espanol y necesito practicar."Keep a notebook an write questions in advance that apply to that situation. Hi Rickie, Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Like so many people who follow your videos, I find your videos immensely helpful. I am “self studying” Spanish and will continue to do so till I think I have enough time to join a language school. My work involves a lot of travel and joining a school will only cause me embarrassment when I am called out for missing classes. Something I noticed in this video is that the download option has been disabled. In my country, KZfaq allows Videos to be downloaded, unless the creator disables it. I download these videos before boarding a flight, that way I can make use of the time I have doing something I like. Long story short, I find your videos very useful/helpful, so much that I download them so I can watch them on flights. It would be very helpful if you could remove the download block on this video, unless you have a reason. Your other videos don’t have the block. Hence my request.

Great video on this topic, I haven't seen so much on this to be honest! Number 7 on your test I'm not sure you covered explicitly, but looking it up online I think because of the 'sin' it would be 'sin caer' - after a preposition the verb is always infinitive, I believe.

The only part of that I still don't understand is where you said that general commands will use the infinitive, but in many cases I see commands conjugated. For example: "elige la respuesta correcta"="choose the correct answer" or "Dibuje el Patron de desbloqueo." Why aren't these phrases written with the infinitive verb instead?
@sugastyl
@sugastyl 4 жыл бұрын
Yes same the imperative form is used here ''elige la respuesta correcta'' . I have always learned that when you use a command, one needs to use the imperative form. Not sure why he says the infinitive

Hi! The sentences regarding "Dancing makes them happy" - aren't they both gramatically wrong? Since there is two objects; them (1) and happy (2) it should be "les", shouldn't it? For example: Bailar les hace feliz Can you explain please?
