2:00 Bill Ackman on investing:"It's one of the few things you can really learn on your own: you can learn investing by reading books, by reading anual reports, [...] you can have a portfolio and invest a 100 dollars, and you can learn the business." Thank you.

While it's true he started his fund at 26, remember that he was already born in affluence, and he started with 56 mils of his family fortune. So, his success doesn't apply to us, commoners.

I started a hedge fund at 26 I came from nothing. (Literally from a single mom family with no job) From 18-25 work like hell and educate yourself to a crazy level. Never go out. Save money like hell. It CAN be done with the right choices. Don’t play the victim and take charge of your life.

Yeah it kinda does. If he was a shitty investor and consistently lost money his fund would have collapsed and he would be a nobody today. People have different starting points but merit is merit.

@@erch3rejc986 You know nothing about Bill Ackman. His fund hasn't been profitable in the last 7 yrs. He only made his biggest breakthrough this yr when he bet 27 mils on Insurance collapse. Good luck starting your own Hedge fund and finding Investors who are willing to risk 10s of mils for you. Mega rich people have mega-rich friends who they trust within their groups to give millions of dollars. Good luck finding them.

@@fatinnoor2422 Even the year before this year the fund had 58% returns. They had a bad three years before that, but otherwise they've been making money. It also helps that Ackman is a smooth/persuasive talker, but honestly that's a merit in addition to his investing skills. Knowing a bunch of rich people isn't the only way to get their money. You could build a reputation on your own by grinding your way into senior positions at other top hedge funds (not easy, I know). When you leave, the brand name will stick with you and some people will trust you with their money. Bill Ackman had it easier than this, but no doubt he still had to build his credibility (by being a good investor, smooth talker or otherwise). Why else would people trust him with $11.5 billion?
@vonb2792
@vonb2792 3 жыл бұрын
Well if you think.. 66% of billionaires came from poverty .. Ackman is a minority... WarrenBuffet started with 1millions $ loan in 1960s from his dad (that's a lot of money).. Ackman said: " I am not a trust fund baby, my dad always told me: you will inherit nothing from me when I die...so that forced me to be someone on my own. Also, I was looking at my friends who did inherit and were clueless on where they would go in life, and I didn't want to be that"
