Dude, same, BB's can penetrate flesh, but they don't go that deep, like flesh wounds. .22 can still penetrate skin, and a lot of people like it because the round itself has a high chance of being lost in the body, or at least being found somewhere else there the point of impact. Higher calibre rounds usually stay in the point of entry, or they exit the body on the other side (exit wound) .22 sticks around, and relocates. Which one of my friends dads said "I'd rather get shot by a .45 than a .22, a 22 would tear up my insides just from traveling."

no. dont go thinking this is logical. It's comedy, it's funny, but it isn't good thinking for real life. you get a flashlight on that weapon. you don't use a .22 for self-defense. those rounds are for killing small animals. the actual truth is neither you nor bill has ever had to kill something with a firearm. i know this to be true because anyone who has knows the problem with this line of thinking. it's not 'being psychotic' to understand the physics and biology at play. the actual psycho in his hypothetical is absolutely not going to just turn around because of a couple of .22 rounds once he's in the room with you. it's hilarious, yes, but it's 100% not the truth. i know it's cliche, but the truth is, real life isn't like the movies. people don't just collapse because the main character pulled a trigger. it can be surprisingly difficult to stop a living thing the size of a grown-ass man with a .22 and you often don't have time to really aim. sure he might die of complications in the hospital 2 weeks later, but that sickle needs to be stopped in seconds. in the hypothetical that he laid out the guy with the .45 is going to have a flashlight attach mounted to his firearm and the moron with the .22 is the clueless one who won't, not to mention that even if he does there's a good chance the guy will take any hits in stride and still close the gap. hell, even bill said himself, "your ear will still be ringing (from the .22), but at least you'll hear him coming around"' - no. this whole thing is comedic gold, but it's terrible advice for real life. almost no one will ever have to deal with a situation that is relevant to this issue, and I would prefer ppl who don't know enough to just stay away from firearms altogether (looking at you alec), but if you're gonna have a weapon for that purpose, inform yourself, get training above the minimum required and keep up with that training regularly, get at least a 9mm, buy the right type of rounds for the application, put a light on it, and don't take life advice from comedians.

Granted, he's talking about the .22 short. A .22lr is powerful enough to pass through your skull if it doesn't deflect. Remeber, most 22lr's only weigh 36ish grains. That's very light for a round, but still lethal. Funny part is it's a mix of velocity and weight that truly makes a round deadly. For example, a 36 grain. 22lr travels at 1,600 fps but a .223 (aka AR-15 round) travels at 3,000 to 3,200 fps (feet per second), yet it only weighs 55 grains. point being, if your looking for lethality, you want that combination of density and speed. Also, I'm only saying this because, I find ballistics to be fascinating. Engineering a new cartridge and weapon must be one hell of a challenge.
