I've noticed something about Bill Burr: he's a much kinder, more supportive, positive and down to earth guy than you might expect given his stand up material. Don't get me wrong I find him hilarious but like being an angry asshole is kind of his brand.

@@drummerrck To me, younger Bill Burr's "aggravated cynicism" persona seemed to free-flow like a volcano, from somewhere deep. You didn't get a sense there was any acting involved. I think welcoming his daughter into the world helped him mellow out a good bit. Mine damn sure did for me.

@@daroaminggnome agreed, he was sellin shows out. But I hated his fuckin ass since day one. I remember all my friends quoting him, and it was infuriating cuz nothin they said was even a joke, there was no set up and no punch line. You’re right of course, no one can define comedy. If anything, he just highlights how important stage presence is, cuz his whole act was in the performance. I’ve done some stand up before, and im a fuckin stiff. But shit, I write jokes that are funny no matter who is sayin em, cuz I can’t perform. And I don’t like comedy that is a performance, I prefer witty clever shit. hearing one of my favorite comedians talk about my favorite youtuber from 15ish years ago feels like a fever dream how big Bo Burnham is loved and makes me feel justified into showing everyone Bo's videos for this long and always go back to it. Seeing the up roar of "Inside" for everyone during Covid was truely rightful. He deserves all the love. He battles with himself, and needs to worry less. I hope in 20 years he relaxes and just makes fun of everything and everyone. I can't wait to hear it.

Dane Cook felt like the first famous comedian of the 2000s. I remember him hittinf his stride during my high school years and it was like everyone knew his act verbatim. White kids, blacks, mexicans. Mainstream crossover success. That was lightning in a bottle. He got a bit too full of himself it seemed and the overexposure was real. Was weird to see people try and pretend he was never funny or they werent lauging their insides out just a year or two prior. That guy is the definition of striking while the iron is hot.

Starting out in the 70s, maybe, but by the time he finally hit it big he definitely didn't do that. Not excusing it, but to get ahead? I guarantee lots of comics did it, especially back then when it was harder to get caught. It's not like today where the age of the internet plasters everything online and you're over-exposed to every wannabe comic with a camera. Half the people who knew about Robin Williams probably didn't even know the names of the people he allegedly ripped off.

This attempt at a joke was less funny than Dane.

I was watching this show maybe on Netflix, and it had a bunch of comics on it. Then this guy I had never heard of named Mark Normand comes out and he was incredibly funny and smart. He is the only one on that show that made me laugh out loud. Huge fan now, obviously. I really needed that, especially then.
