I just love your analysis. It is an education on Evan's incredibly lofty knowledge and genius for chord substitutions and unusual and fresh inner chord voicings with economy of motion that make his song interpretations so unique soundings. Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Wynton Kelly are great at this as well but is just something so special about Bill. You can really get pleasantly swept away in his thought process. It is as though Claude Debussy started playing the great American Songbook! What a shame... he died at only 51. I think he had no sense of his greatness...he was an explorer who enriched the art of interpretation through his incredible knowledge of what was harmonically possible.

This is the pinnacle. No one has matched him since

I agree...no one matches Bill. Jarrett is close in some ways...; and is another genius. But Bill has something very special that no one has quite reached. But some players have gone beyond him...that could be said. .

Your analysis of Bill's harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic genius is a brilliant effort to keep this music alive. Your life and work has real purpose which also shows in your own playing. Even if it only reaches a small group of musicians and jazz lovers, Bill is smiling at you from heaven. Bill is a level of genius that rivals the freshness of Debussy IMHO. Keith Jarrett is a level of genius that rivals Mozart, IMHO. Not everything he plays is great, but when it is on, it is breathtaking and fresh beyond belief. Like Mozart's 41st Symphony where in the final movement he combine 5 themes playing at once. Bill & Keith are my two favorites pianists (other geniuses I would sneak in include Stravinsky, Bach, and Art Tatum/Oscar Peterson, and Glenn Gould). Did you hear Rick Beato's recent KZfaq interview with Jarrett? In his waning years, he finally let someone in to verbally communicate with. You should also connect with Rick Beato and do some videos on Bill Evans with him - he is an amazing educator and communicator. He would LOVE your work and you guys could promote each other's channels. Rick would definitely promote you. He is in Atlanta and does his videos out of his recording studio and has a huge following. He also is an excellent guitar player who can play (sort of) like Joe Pass. You guys should jam together on My Foolish Heart (my request). Sorry I rambled.@@KentHewittpiano88

One of Bill's gems. Apparently, I first got to know his music when heard Jazz 625 recording. Though the quality was not so good, it was something else. I felt lots and lots inside. Honestly, never knew the music could move so hard. But anyway I have been with Bill and his music since then perhaps. Great, great music.

Same thing happened to me...I first saw his picture in Downbeat magazine when I was 17...then went to a record store in New London and the owner showed me his album Portrait in Jazz, listened to it in the back booth, and fell in love w/ his playing.

Someone wrote that it was not an analysis...rather a breakdown. What's the difference?
@SpiroJildeh

Analysis is the process of understanding something, while breakdown is the process of describing something. So you did both 😊

I just started learning one of Bill Evans' compositions, 'Very Early' I was hoping you had a video on it but I cant seem to find it. Any chances you would consider dissecting this piece? Bill plays it in C
