No one on earth sounds like Bill Evans. One of the greatest composers and players ever. He creates such an atmosphere...soft breezes, late nights, quiet rain, starry nights...he's an impressionist painting in sound. God I love Bill Evans.

this series of videos is a treasure for teachers and students. i think bill evans puts it very clearly, that you have to work rigorously on fundamentals before you permit yourself the freedom to play the deeper aspects. you also have to enable yourself to discover, to play like a child, to experience things for yourself, because mechanical training of some material leaves you with (perhaps) material for the short term, but it isn't a sustainable and lively experience in the long term. very universal advice, for musicians and people working on anything else. take this to heart..!

A revelation...a way of approaching the artistry of jazz I have never heard expressed so directly...I was always taught it was about imitation, transcription, and repetition of what was already developed by the icons. This 3 part presentation has got me thinking.....about both teaching and learning.

priceless footage and confirmation of principles I have discovered. Being"real" is paramount in jazz that "tells stories."

it's about learning jazz step by step in a true and hardworking way, so you understand everything you play, instead of approxiamating the whole problem and overplay something you don't know what is. You must know your music changes, know the things that have been played before, and know what you have to do.. with a spark of adventure.

It doesn't seem like his brother is interrupting. It's like two guys (brothers) having a conversation. Great stuff.

Thank you again for posting this. The music is haunting, so simple. Never any flourishes with Bill Evans. Genius.

the themes of his tunes at the end are so incredibly beautiful, very unfortunate that there arent any solo renditions of for example "my bells"

They may be brothers, but I sense a Salieri/Mozart thing going on between them, certainly on the less-known brother's side.
