He’s a Stanley Cup Champion and the General Manager of the Minnesota Wild. Bill Guerin joined Jeff and Elliotte while his team was swinging through Toronto last week to talk about the trade deadline, how he manages his cap as well as his relationship with his owner, Craig Leipold, playing the role of banker over the last couple of weeks, the types of costs that catch him off guard, what he intends to table at the next GM meetings, building a team around his playing style, dealing with other managers, his transition from player to manager, playing with Sidney Crosby, being courted by several teams ahead of the 2002-03 season and he goes into detail about his management style.

This Oilers fan remembers some good times when Bill Guerin was a leading winger. I think what he says about mental toughness is very important. Playing your best game in the most hostile environment (but also, the most forgiving). The current Oilers squad could learn something from him.

I said this on Twitter after listening to this podcast yesterday, but I never heard confirmation that Detroit offered him a contract but wanted him that offseason. Can't imagine that team with 9 future hall of famers, also having him.

Great GM and doing all the proper things to make the Wild a powerhouse going forward. The picks, pipeline and atmosphere are solid. Minnesota will be a tough punch out for any team, including colorado going forward. If / when the secondary scoring comes, if the goaltending continues, this could be a dangerous foe. While it seems like a boring brand of hockey, this group is geared for the playoffs much better then lasts years team and the exciting up and down style of play that was 2022. Wait until Faber, Wallstedt, Beckman, Rossi, Lambos to name just a few start plugging into the lineup. Cup potential in MN with this management and scouting group in place. Once the cap finally resolved itself, the kids will be ready to play as well….

Yeah by acquired cheap and low score guys. It's thinking that could help the wild win a cup. I'm thinking he wants Kap to do all the score and those guys just play defense.🤣

My only concern is that Kaprizov's contract will be up and he'll want to bail once all the great prospects start arriving and playing well. Their defense and goaltending should be outstanding in the future, but I really hope they can find some high end scoring in the draft or elsewhere. You can just see offensively how much the team misses Fiala. It's also very obvious the in the last 1.5 months Evason made the conscious decision to totally change their philosophy and system up because they weren't scoring. Now, it's all about defense, less risk taking, and looking for opportunities to score only when it's there. Reminds me of the 2003 Wild with their 1 superstar.

Thank you for wanting to bring up going back to the old one verse 8 playoff format at the GM meetings. I hate the current playoff format. Like Bill said, too many good teams going out in the first round. Don't like the fact that they don't reseed either

The Wild are such a mediocre and boring team. Like, You have a top 20 player in the league in Kaprizov and you literally need him on the ice to have any sort of scoring chance.

Yet are in salary cap hell being capped -14million these next 2 years and somehow continue to be top 3 in division.... Imagine these prospects work out and you get that fair salary back, the pieces you could add. Do they play medicore yes, are they boring at times yes, but somehow they still produce and win even with being -14mill to other teams.

Bill inherited a mediocre franchise and is transforming them. He is making the right moves with the Parise Suter cap hit. Let him cook, best prospect pool in the entire league. Wild will be respected, maybe even feared in a few years..

You can say that but they are #2 in positions gained since All Star Break, 2nd in shots allowed, just had a streak of 26 straight PPK, have the 2nd best goaltender stats with The Gus Bus! Stingy, stallwart defensive play is really tough to train. I think Boldy needs the speed Marcus can bring. It is too easy to run cover 2 guys on Boldy without that other speedy wing. Hartman coming on now makes it hard to pull cover 2 on Kaprizov as well. If Nyquist will be healthy even better for Boldy line. This team may be surprising but I would agree, not a spoiler. They want Boeser but can it happen?

Why because he's helped build one of the best prospect pools in the league? Or because he didn't waste those assets for a rental? The Wild are 2nd in their division while having -$12+ million in dead cap. I'd call that impressive.
