Any way you slice it- it's some funky dub! Thank you Bill, Jack, Derek, and Disk.

actually this is excellent. .Laswell an deJohnette set up the groove and Bailey and the DJ speak over it in a foreign language. It works

Beautiful concert! These four masters melt here in a powerful, expansive way. Insanely tight! ... And by the way, some people criticize this concert for the same kind of reasons people criticized "Bitches Brew" back in the day, It's just disguised in other words, like "the dj is annoying, what's he doing?" kinda thing. Evolutionary music is not always easy for the ears, for it requiers deep listening and total surrender.

Good call. I find it surprising that so many comments seem to take issue with the dj and nobody takes issue with the radically different approach that DB takes. I think that dj adds a nice touch. It reminds me of Merzbow playing with Boris.

i think Disk is killer...... i just want to see DJs start employing EFX(i.e. pedals or rack gear with knobs and faders).... i see it as another way to introduce "surprise dynamics" to their individual techniques.... you know, dub up that scratch, or flange and reverse that chop n screw..... ya never know, some quark spice in the "stone soup" could simmer into a real Bitches Brew.....

The sounds of doomsday and transmutations. This is killar music, not for the fainthearted. And i´m not scratching anybody´s back.

after some hard bop / early seventies jazz listening I think this is very ear pleasing. Laswell and de Johnette give it such a great groove. Bailey's "language" just need to be translated as mentioned below, it makes sense.

Derek Bailey is a very misunderstood musician. He is not speaking English. he is speaking a foreign language and you have to understand that to appreciate what he is doing.

LOVE this!!!! but the questions still lingers after 20 years, WHY DONT DJs USE EFX PEDALS????????? they are missing out on a ton of new expressive possibilities....!

someone teach DJs what their efx loop is for, on their mixers.....

I know right? AT LEAST they could use them to smooth out their sounds a little bit. It all sounds so dry and thin

Watching the dj's fingers up close and it made me wonder...are there any tabla players out there who also dj? That would probably be real dope, as those dudes have microchips in their fingertips...

Why do most DJ's have headphones around their neck but never put them over their ears?

@@sideshowbob They only use them for finding the cue on their next record while playing it on a channel that doesn't go into the main mix. Once they start playing that record, they don't need them anymore until the next one.

I love scratching but this makes it seem so annoying. If I were an outsider to the instrument I would definitely find it so. I really wish they had a guy like D Styles or Ricci Rucker instead. Either of those guys would have demonstrated some really intricate and funky scratching to the masses. No offense to Disk though, he's doing his own thing.
