T.J. English was tasked with writing a profile of Bill Murray for Irish America magazine. This was around the time Scrooged came out. So he headed out to Murray's house in New Jersey. The guys sat down and the tape recorder was turned on. Murray's dog ran about and wrecked a little havoc.
Murray cracked wise on giving back to his mom when he made it big, hijinks on the set of Ghostbusters, the spiritual change that saved him from destruction, and how fame sort of helps with talking to women.

I've heard that Bill Murray goes beyond just breaking the Fourth Wall...he will get off the stage, sit down next to you, then say to you, "Can you believe this guy?" in reference to the character he is playing. Wisecrack explains it better.

After Ghostbusters (1984), Murray tried to do some dramatic acting. After those films bombed, he went into a state of depression and inactivity. He made sporadic appearances (Little Shop of Horrors, 1987; Scrooged, 1988), but things didn't get going again until Ghostbusters 2 (1989).

The Razor's Edge (1984) is a great movie, in which Bill plays a soldier coming to terms with life as a WW1 veteran. But it got trashed by critics and audiences, who wanted to see him do Stripes and Caddyshack again. The experience made him want to quit acting. Incidentally, it was the movie that made Wes Anderson want to cast Bill in Rushmore.

One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors, but surprisingly enough the 1940s version stayed more true to the book. He did a great job, but I think it missed the mark. I hope one day someone actually remakes it and maybe set it in modern times and explore further into what the author did in the book, which was to digress for a few chapters from the story and actually philosophize a bit. This makes me want to read it again!

Zombieland, fuck acting, it was hilarious scene. Thank you Mr BIll for open mindedness Who acts like a ZOMBIE hahaha hahah come on you rock the set, DRAMA. It may be more appropriate but it is a weaker hook. This is the difference between hundreds of thousands of views, and therefore the difference of of thousands of dollars. If you’re looking for accurate titles, you are on the the wrong website.

I was 17 when I met Bill Murray at a firework show. At the time (2015; Ik, not long ago at this point), my mom worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Lake City, South Carolina, and every spring they would have ArtFields, a huge art festival in the Southeast US, which they would include a "celebrity" judge to pick the winner. That year, Bill was picked to do so since he was good friends with the Mayor. Everyone wanted pictures and autographs from him, but they were denied due to the Mayor being there as well (basically security reasons). On the final night of the festival, May 2, I was in the back of the audience trying to see Bill, slowly but getting closer to the stage. But by the time I got in front, he already left. Then after the awards were given out, the firework show began. I was in the back, again, watching the display. But as I was watching, I heard someone say, "Great fireworks, huh?" Sensing it was at me, I turned to my left and tilted my head upward, and there he was, standing right beside me, about 2 inches from his arm to mine. My eyes widened by such sight, but at the same time, I acted cool so I wouldn't make a scene. So I turned my head back up at the sky and said clear and loud enough for him to hear me, "Yeah it is…" And if he were to pass, this would be my story featuring him and I. A true legend indeed… ✌️

I love how he admits it could have been anyone. He just answered the right curtain call and poof, fame and fortune for the lottery winner. Even though others around him clearly deserved it more. This is the trapping of our profit-driven culture. You have pepper in lottery winners to keep the workers clocked in, but we don't even award accomplishment. All that matters is the lottery makes a worker look free so the other workers don't lose hope and stop working.

@@shanesawyer5103 actually lots of extremely talented people can do that. The problem is Bill's peers as well as Bill himself have taken more than they need in the pursuit of all there is to have. And he fully understands his position is that of blind luck. Many hundreds of thousands of people are just as talented, just as deserving, and had just as much to offer. The only difference for them was, "Sorry the position is already taken". Because, wait for it, there can only be one Bill Murray. Opportunity itself is a limited commodity. Bill could have walked away after 5 or 10 years a very rich man, without a worry in his, or his great grandkids, full complete and prosperous lives. But he wanted more. So unfortunately that means hundreds of thousands of people just as talented and determined as he was, never got a chance to live a debt free and prosperous life. Bill understands all of this. He understands the guilt of his position and the lack of guilt his peers typically posses. It sickens him, as it should sicken everyone else. A select minority chosen by random chance to represent "the elite" in any frame of reference absolutely depends on the suffrage of the many. Should billions suffer at the fringe of death through a tortured life of slavery and tedium so "the few" can skip around the world in their private floating town yachts raping children? No of course not, but somehow that is the reality we live in as humans. Because luck favors the first hungry mouth to the trough with as much as they can eat. Even if what the psychopathic wealth hoarders want to eat is children's genitals. Bill knows he drank as deeply as he could from the town fountain, and he also knows that fountain ran dry leaving most of the town thirsty in his wake. Bill or any other celebrity/wealthy person on a pedestal. Never defend their monopoly over resources and opportunity. That is not an achievement. It's a mental illness.

@@caleb1031 hmm that may be our generations perception being changed. But the reality has always been there. Great men can have terrible flaws. David of the Bible was a horrible sinner. St. Paul was a murderer, and Dr. Martin King Jr. had affairs. It is obviously good to look up to these men for what they did great but an idolatrous position of men will always fall short of expectations. So now people are confronted with a reality the people of the past did not have to. While it may result in cognitive dissonance it nonetheless can help us grow in appreciation of admirable people without putting them on a pedestal. So one can have heroes, but one must also know the weakness of man and not have it shatter what a person may have tried standing for.

@@partydean17 I agree completely. One should not conflate a hero with a perfect human (Such a thing is impossible, so such a belief is unreasonable). One should rather use them as an example to better attain whatever traits they find admirable. That is the purpose of a hero. If we cannot celebrate people with admirable traits, then we cannot celebrate anyone at all. In a time when our youth is most influenced by the most popular Minecraft youtuber of the day, we do ourselves a disservice in tearing down that which inspires us to greater things.

I hear what Bill is saying. Why can't I just act like an obnoxious ass without people thinking I'm reenacting a scene from a movie or show? The thrill of being a jerk is diluted by the jaded, openness of minds that have seen it all, or are waiting with bated breath with their fingers hovering over the shutter button to capture your insanity for their fame and profit. One feels like a rare creature under constant scrutiny, where every word, gest, and reaction is placed under a magnifying glass and exploited, then canonized to never be seen as an original thought again. Such is entertainment

I was at wallmart and i Didnt have enough money at the register i panic, then i felt a hand on my shoulder, i turned around and there was Bill eff-ing Murray!!!! He payed for all my foods and stuff + he gave me and my mom tickets to his LAS Vegas comedy stunt aweersome person ❤️✌️✌️

I just wanted to make a point in saying that... BILL MURRAY is my favorite actor. I think he's probably one of the greatest actors with high integrity. but then again...I probably read that somewhere and I may be regurgitating opinions of some person who wrote an article. who knows. I just like him...in a way that I don't like others.
