Earlier this week we joined a group that visited Bill Tower's collection of Corvettes and NASCAR racers in Plant City Florida.
Bill owns one of the five original lightweights, the #005 1963 Corvette Grand Sport and he gave a very informative talk about the car that he personally worked on in his days at Chevrolet Engineering.

Wow, that is incredible! The original Grand Sports are my favorite Corvettes. Some great stories! A lot of info I never knew, like it being 7/8th scale, and the air jacks.

I was just at Bill's last Friday (4-27-18), there is so much to take in, you have to go at least two times. I will be doing 3 stories for Vette Magazine from my visit some time in later 2018. One story about Bill's career, the second about the amazingly advanced 1956 SR-2, and the third about Grand Sport #005.

I too love the GS but I REALLY love what's behind it, it's my personal favorite Corvette, Goodwood green with a white stinger stripe!

I saw them run at Sebring in 1965 as an Explorer Scout on the field trip of epic proportions. My favorite was the Cobras, but everything was beat by Jim Hall's Chapparal

Wow I never knew they were 7/8 scale... knew about the 377 all aluminum engines - buddy has a magnesium side draft intake he picked up from Newman Haas. Penske also used dry ice packed around the fuel towers because cold fuel takes up less volume...

No Disrespect Intended, Wouldn't The Superformance Version Of This Car Be Just As Good As A Daily Driver For Those Who Can Afford It?

Superformance adds a ton of updated drivetrain. Basically a modern car with an old look. Probably awesome daily driver. An original would be a nightmare to try and get around town.

7/8 scale sounds like a marketing pitch. 1 inch shorther or narrower does not make 7/ 8 scale. For this to be "7/8 " scale it would need to be 9 inches narrower, and at least 18- 20 inches shorter.
