January 12, 1994 For almost twenty years Bill Walton did it all on the basketball court. From his great college days at UCLA to his championship years in the NBA. But it appears Walton has scored a few slam dunks off the court as well--namely his four sons. News 8's Hank Bauer with photojournalist Charlie Landon, has more on the Walton family's starting five--Adam, Luke, Nathan, and Christopher.

Bill Walton is the absolute man. If he was born 30 years later, he would have had a massive career in the NBA and would be destroying it right now in the PODcast space. He had game and personality. Very lucrative combination.

Today surgeons could have probably corrected his congenital deformed feet which were the cause of his constant foot fractures. Back in those days they didn't really know how to correct the foot problems he had other than fuse the bones.

I think Walton would have had success in any time period but i think him growing up in the sixties and becoming a star in the 70s was the best perfect fit for him and his personality. Despite the injuries he still had a pretty impressive career in college and the nba.

It's crazy to think that such a charismatic guy was intensely shy and soft-spoken at one point. He worked hard to develop that part of his "game," too, so to speak.

Met Bill way back, I'm 75 so must have met him when he was 17, 18. Had the biggest bycicle I've ever seen, nice guy, Wasn't too much into sports, just a big guy I'd see at the smoothy stand on coast hwy between Carona del Mar and Laguna Beach. Old camper behind were people hung out. See ya soon Bill

I used to run ball with Bill's oldest son Adam in the early 2000s. A very polite and humble young man with a soft shot, even at deep range. He usually took it easy on us. I also used to see Bill in the stands at Grateful Dead shows or riding his bike around the parking lot. RIP Bill. "Listen to the river sing sweet songs To rock your soul."

Saw Bill and his two sons watching pick up games in the mid-80s in Manhattan Beach, CA at Marine Ave Park (if memory serves). Just watching, not playing. He was pointing things out to his sona that players were doing. Also saw Howie long, Danny Schayes and Dave Wohl play there. Played against Schayes and Long in full court pick up games. Bill was in instruction mode with his sons, then much younger than in this video. A great dad.
